CPS Superintendent's Update
PERSEVERANCE * RESPECT * INTEGRITY * DEDICATION * EMPATHY

Superintendent's Update - 12.3.2021
Dear CPS Community,
I hope you had a wonderful holiday break and were able to enjoy some much-deserved rest over the long weekend. The holiday season is upon us and there are many activities and events planned for the next several weeks until our holiday break. Please be on the lookout from your schools for upcoming holiday event information.
As we enter the weeks leading up to the holiday break, I would like to highlight a change in Covid-19 positivity rates in Massachusetts and our school district. There has been an uptick in cases throughout the Commonwealth, an anticipated rise in numbers as the colder weather moves activities indoors and more social gatherings are held throughout the holiday season. While we have also witnessed a recent uptick in overall positive Covid cases in our schools these past few weeks, our data indicates our preventative measures are working to sustain in-person learning. Most of our positive cases in schools are traced back to positive family members or from student contact at organized activities outside of school. I ask you to remain vigilant these next few weeks to keep all in our school community healthy and safe for the holidays. It is imperative to maintain our mitigation strategies of mask-wearing, handwashing, and social distancing when possible. Although there are many places where mask-wearing and social distancing is not required, I ask that you please use these mitigating strategies outside of school, even though not required, to help keep students and staff safe from infections and to minimize student absences from school.
Please note that December is concert month in our schools. Students in performing arts classes will be showcasing their musical talents in the coming weeks. Please consider attending a concert and witness for yourself the amazing talents of our students.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy reviewing the information below in this week’s newsletter.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

CHS Art Students Participate in a Memory Project
Studio 3 art students at CHS participated in the Memory Project this year, which involves students being matched up with children from developing countries and creating works of art (mostly portraits) for them. Students were able to get some basic information about the children, including what they hope to be when they grow up. The students really enjoyed working on this and are excited to send their artwork off to the children in Cameroon. The website for the Memory Project is linked here: https://www.memoryproject.org/.
