Schmucker PTO Newsletter

March 2020

From the PTO

We are planning for the future!

Since you have a student in middle school have you been looking for ways to get the inside scoop on Schmucker happenings? We have a way for you to get your foot in the door and find out the things your middle schooler isn’t telling you. Look no further than your Schmucker PTO leadership team to help you get the info you didn’t know you didn’t know.

We are currently seeking volunteers for our PTO Board and Committee Positions for the 2020/2021 school year. Board positions that are open include: President Elect, Treasurer, and Corresponding Secretary. There are numerous Committee Chair positions available as well.

Please send your self nominations, nominate a person you know would be a great asset, or your questions to Claudia Mager, 2020/2021 PTO President via email at or cell 574.323.7298. Thank you for considering and helping us fill the next Schmucker PTO Board and Committee Leaders.

Next Meeting

Please help us decide what time our meeting will be on May 7th. We traditionally have our General Meetings for Schmucker PTO during the day at 1pm for about an hour. We are considering meeting in the evening at 6pm for our May 7th, 2020 meeting if there is enough interest to change the time to the evening hour. Vote and share your opinion! We'll give you until Friday, March13th to let us know your vote so we can make a plan for the May meeting. Thank you.

Teacher Appreciation

The teachers will enjoy the Luck of the Irish in March for their token of appreciation. They will test their luck on choosing a grab bag from the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Thank you to everyone who signed up to donate gift cards! Please have your gift cards to the office by Monday, March 9th.

Career Day Volunteers Needed

Do you have a career you enjoy? Would you like to share what you do and inspire soon to be young adults? On Tuesday, May 26th, Schmucker is looking for volunteers to speak about their careers to groups of 8th graders. Click on this link for more information and to sign up. Thank you for your time and enthusiasm!

Do you know an accountant?

Schmucker PTO is looking for an accountant to prepare and file our taxes on an annual basis beginning in the 2020/2021 school year. We would love to hear your suggestions and hire a Schmucker connection. Send accounting suggestions to Claudia Mager, PTO President 2020/2021, or 574.323.7298

Company Rebates

Thanks everyone! With your help, Schmucker has earned over $125 this school year from Box Tops! That's more than we earned last year. Please keep scanning in your receipts. Every little bit helps!! We will also collect physical Box Tops for the next year. Anything you send in now will be saved and sent in next fall. Thank you for all of your help collecting Box Tops and scanning in your receipts!

February was the last month for all fundraising for 8th graders and all the funds have been sent to Hemisphere. If you have a younger sibling attending SMS and if you are interested in fundraising through SCRIP, please notify the SCRIP coordinator, Cindy Basil, at

Big picture

The Parent Teacher Organization at Schmucker Middle School plays a vital role in supplementing the educational experiences of our children. The funds raised by the PTO allow our students to have opportunities not funded by the school budget.
