May 2016

Message from Administration

We are all surprised that the end of another year is fast approaching! Students and teachers continue to work hard and are celebrating how far everyone has come this year. There is a lot of anticipation for the June events such as end-of-the-year trips, class celebrations, CARRnival and of course, Grade 8 Graduation. Continue to check the website, watch for synervoice emails or follow Emily Carr on Twitter for all of our exciting events.

With the warm weather upon us, we appreciate that parents and caregivers are opting to walk to school to pick-up their child(ren). Please be extra careful when you are choosing to use our parking lot. We are trying to keep our EC children safe when traveling to and from school.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our World Tour Multicultural Night a huge success! A special thank-you goes out to the families and staff who participated with a country table and to all of the wonderful performers who entertained us with their music and dancing. An extra special thanks to the band for showing us their talents at the beginning of the evening before they headed out to Ottawa! (Congratulations to their success at Nationals!!) This night could not have happened without the staff who helped out and gave their time. Thank you to Mrs. Hassall for organizing this event as well as for her dedication to our community! Emily Carr truly welcomes diversity and our World Tour Multicultural Night was a wonderful celebration!

New Website!

We are excited to launch our new Emily Carr website! Please bookmark our new page for all of our regular updates. A special thank you to Mr. Elliott, Mr. Allin and Ms. Stoness for your hard work on this site.

New EC Website

A Musical Note by J. Barber

We extend a big congratulations to the Emily Carr Senior Band on achieving a GOLD standing at Nationals in Ottawa on May 13. Musically the students have grown so much this year. They should be proud of their achievement. A special thank you to the parents who put together the celebration at the school when we returned Friday night. The Grade 8 Band will finish their year with a performance on June 8th for their families at which time they will play our new commissioned piece. On April 27th the students had an opportunity to work with the composer, Vince Gassi. Truly a busy term!

The Grade 7 Band first concert was Wednesday, May 18th. They were very excited to play for their families. Their band practices are now finished for the year.

The Blue Jays' Choir is preparing for their outing to the Blue Jays' game on Thursday, June 9th. We have almost 600 people attending with approximately 120 families from our school going. The tickets went home on Thursday, May 19th. A reminder for the choir families: please read the letter which was attached to the tickets. The Grade 7 and 8 Band students are off to Canada’s Wonderland on Wednesday, June 1st. The Grade 8’s will participate in the Music Festival and the 7’s will have an opportunity to observe the adjudication process and hear other school bands.

Lost and Found

At the moment our lost and found area is growing! Please come by the school and claim any items that belong to you. Any unclaimed items will be packed up and donated to charity by Friday, June 3rd.

Tim Horton's 5KM Walk/Run

This year will mark our 5th year participating as a community in the Tim Horton's 5KM Walk/Run For the Camps at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. The event will take place on Sunday, May 29th.
