Veteran's Day Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation, and Excellence!

On Monday, Warwick Elementary honored 80 of our country's veterans during a Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly. Students wrote and shared poems and essays about what it means to be a veteran and why we should be grateful for their service. Teachers spent hours after school decorating the cafeteria, halls, and gymnasium. Students (and our Principal) proudly escorted their family veteran(s) into the assembly and each veteran was presented with an Honorary Warwick Bear certificate. When we finally asked the veterans to stand and be recognized and thanked, the students gave our veterans a standing ovation. One of the veterans expressed "it was a beautiful thing to see all of those children thanking us--we didn't always get that."

Golden Hashtag!

Warwick Elementary was presented with a Golden Hashtag award by Dr. Nadine Garvin, CBSD Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education, for sharing all of the exciting things that are happening in our classrooms and community on Twitter. Mrs. Leatherbarrow proudly accepted the Golden Hashtag on behalf of the Warwick Elementary Faculty and Staff. She acknowledges that this is a shared honor: "The Warwick faculty does an amazing job of using Twitter to share lesson ideas and promote teaching and learning." For that reason, who tweet--a.k.a "tweachers"--will each have a day to proudly display the Golden Hashtag in their classroom and tweet with their class their reaction to having received such a distinction. As you can see in the pictures below, Mrs. Leatherbarrow and the PTO chose Mrs. Kehan, our Warwick Librarian, as the first Tweacher to have the Golden Hashtag for the day!

If you would like to follow what teachers are tweeting, you can follow Warwick at https://twitter.com/CBWarwickElem or go to the Warwick web page to see the feed.

Reminders

Excusing Student Absences

When your student will be absent from school, please use the Attendance Hotline (267-893-4055) to report the absence and email your student's teacher.

Here is a list of absence reasons that are excusable in PA Public Schools: illness, quarantine, death in the immediate family, religious holidays, home emergencies, and health care directly related to the student. Excuses must be called/emailed within three (3) days of the student’s return. State law requires that an explanation of absence be stated in order for schools to excuse an absence.
