Principal's Corner: Mr. Schultz

We finished our first week of face to face with distance learning. We had a great first week with this structure. There will be bumps in the road with teachers doing both face to face and distance simultaneously. It will take time for everyone to adjust and get more comfortable with this mode of instruction.

All the students who returned face to face wore their masks properly and have been great! We couldn’t ask for a better week. Lunchtime is difficult, we understand. We know students have assigned seats and can’t sit by their friends. We are allowing students to bring their chromebooks or school work down during lunch. Please encourage your child(ren) to bring something to keep them occupied after they are done eating.

We have coded all students as either face to face learners or distance learners in Skyward. Students who are coded face to face learners are expected to come to school for instruction, if they are sick, please call the attendance line, 364-6336, and report their absence. They will be marked absent for the day, but are encouraged to login from home to get their instruction. Distance learners are to login every hour to follow classes virtually. If you are switching your mode of learning, you need to come to the MMS office and complete a mode of learning switching form! The only exception would be if you are asked to quarantine by the health department….in that case please call the school, and we will code you as a distance learner until your quarantine is complete (minimum of 1 week).

If you are a distance learner and having trouble connecting, please email the teacher for help or further instructions.

The end of the 1st marking period is Friday, November 6th. Please check Skyward to make sure your child has all of their missing work completed and turned in. We want everyone to have a successful 1st marking period. MMS teachers will not be assigning any new homework or work to be done this Halloween weekend so you can have a Wellness Weekend.

We will be having a 2nd marking period supply distribution for distance learners on Tuesday, November 3rd from 1-3 pm. We will have tables set up in the main entrance with supplies from those classes that need to send home 2nd marking period supplies, please mark your calendar if your child is distance learning and you were notified by their teacher that there are supplies needed to be picked up.

Conferences will be the week of November 16th. We will be having phone/virtual conferences this year because of the Coronavirus. Appointments will be set up through Skyward, so if you haven’t already signed up for parent access for Skyward, please come to the MMS office with your license or state ID to sign up! More information will be coming on MMS conferences and how to sign up for them.

Thanks again for everyone's patience and understanding during these times. Everyone is working to provide the best and safest learning experience. We know things will be different then we are used to, but realize it needs to be this way for everyone’s safety. Thanks again for everyone’s support, and we wish everyone a fun and safe Halloween weekend!

We have had a great week with students back in school. A huge thank you to our students and staff for doing a great job following our procedures and especially keeping masks on at all times. We are glad to see so many of our students back to face to face and for students who need to learn from a distance to have that option also.
