ECC Staff Appreciation Week: May 3-7

They inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. They’re experts at boosting confidence through the right mix of motivation and instruction. They serve alternately as mediator, supportive listener, and all-around problem fixer. And in the past year, they persevered despite the challenges thrown their way amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Teacher Appreciation Week is a chance to thank educators for all they do to ensure that students succeed in school and in life.

Snacks Needed

Parents,

To help us show appreciation to the staff at ECC, please send favorite snack and beverages to stock our workroom during Staff Appreciation Week. Chips, cheese sticks, yogurt, fruit, cookies...pre-packaged items of popcorn and such would be a treat! Begin sending on Monday, May 3rd. Make sure it is marked for Staff Appreciation so that we know what it is for :)

FREE Summer Food Program

Great news for our free or reduced qualified families! The Cherokee Nation Summer Nutrition Program is now accepting applications for the Summer EBT for Children program. This federally funded program is available to anyone; you do not have to be American Indian to qualify. Qualifying families will receive approximately $30 of free food per child per month for May, June and July. Benefits are on an EBT card (works like a debit card) that allows you to purchase healthy food for the summer.

Participation in this program will have no impact on other government assistance that you and your child receive.

Information provided by you on the data spreadsheet or any records obtained for this program will be kept confidential as required by law and will be used only for this project.

Once approved, Summer EBT cards will be mailed to the address provided along with a list of participating stores and a food card (shopping list) that will help you identify approved food items.

Families with questions can call Cherokee Nation SEBTC at (539) 234-3265 or (800) 256-0671 ext. 5589 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday with questions.

Good News Call of the Day

When your phone rings and that caller ID says Grove Public School...it might just be Mrs. Bloss giving you a shout with the Good News Call of the Day! Good News Call of the Day Winners are students who go above and beyond and are nominated by Kindergarten Teachers. Students get to hear Mrs. Bloss brag about them and have their picture taken. One goes on the Good News Wall of Fame and a copy goes home in the backpack.

FREE MEALS at GPS for ALL Students!

As per the USDA, funding has provided that all costs for all childrens’ meals will be temporarily waived. Free meals for students 18 and under will apply as far into the fall semester as funding allows. When normal charges for meals resume, you will be notified of this change.

Since this program is temporary, it is encouraged that if you believe that your family may qualify for free or reduced priced school lunches, please continue to submit completed applications to the Cafeteria Clerks Office as soon as possible. Approved applications benefit programs within the district and the district as a whole. Questions or concerns you may contact: Kathie Hanna, Cafeteria Food Service Manager 918-786-3003 x1123 or Patti Beamer, Cafeteria Clerk Manager 918-786-3003 1132

Ridgy Ready Tickets

Above is a picture of our Ridgy Ready Ticket Tubs that sit in the hall. Each day, students are rewarded with Ridgy Ready Tickets when they show they are Responsible, Respectful and Safe. Tickets are drawn for prizes on Ch. 97. Classes also work to win rewards together such as bubble parties. When a child is drawn out of the tub for Ch. 97, the ticket is sent home with a small prize so that the parent can celebrate too :)

Building Visitors

Due to safety concerns, visitors will not be allowed inside our building after the OPEN HOUSE on August 17th. This has been a very difficult decision as we have always had pride in offering a warm, welcoming environment to families and visitors. This means your child will need to be (1) dropped off and picked up in the car line, (2) dropped off at the front door and picked up in the car line or (3) ride the bus. Whether you choose to drop your child off at the front door or in the car line, please have their Temp Ticket ready to give to the staff member on duty. This will allow your child quick entry into the building. Remember- ALL students need to be picked up in the car line unless they ride a bus or go to daycare. No students may be picked up at the front doors or cafeteria doors in person.

If you should need to pick up your child early for an appointment, please call prior to the appointment so that we may have your child waiting in the office. You will then need to call when you arrive at school and we will meet you in front of the building with your child. Early check outs will not be permitted after 2:30 p.m. Make your plans accordingly and always call the office ahead. Remember- we do not change transportation plans for children after 2:00 p.m.

Birthdays are a special time for our students and we want to celebrate them! You may send special snacks to school with your child that are store bought. You may check your child out for lunch but please call ahead so that we may have them waiting to be picked up. Watch Ch 97 for your child's birthday recognition and check his/her backpack for our birthday book gift.

In the event that a parent needs to conduct school business such as dropping off a forgotten backpack or lunchbox, please follow these guidelines:

  • Wear a Mask
  • Wait to be temp checked by office staff when entering our front doors
  • Stand behind the blue line in the front office
  • Should you need to visit with a teacher, you will need to call ahead and schedule an appointment during their planning period

Thank you for your patience, flexibility and cooperation this year as we do our best to keep our students, staff and our community safe, healthy and well.
