Fourth Grade Speciality Classes
2022-2023
1st Trimester
Technology
Next, students used Sketches School to design a reflection quote about something positive.
Students used their Memoji's from last year (or created new ones) and then designed a body using Keynote. Students grouped the objects and then used a special website to make their Memoji's move.
4th graders used Stop Motion to make movable rock patterns and created Stop Motion portraits.
4th grade created animated Keynote haunted houses and even added spooky music to bring their project to life.
Students created animated kaleidoscopes also using Keynote. Students learned how to group different objects, how to use the rotation and duration feature and also how to add transitions to make their kaleidoscope look realistic.
Finally over the last few weeks students have been working on their photography with a series of challenges.
Gym
4th Grade has been working on cooperation, team building and sportsmanship throughout the different games and activities we have done so far. Each Gym class begins with warm up stations that consist of different exercises that the students rotate through to get their bodies moving. Next trimester will consist of different exercises for the students to learn.
Some of the themes and activities we have done so far include Memory Games, Relay Races, Rock, Paper, Scissors Tag as well as manipulative movements such as overhand/underhand throwing and catching. We are working as a group or individual for each game as well as being good sports throughout the duration of each gym class.
Next trimester, we will introduce more manipulative skills such as kicking, striking and hula hooping. This will help us Segway into the different major sports such as baseball, soccer, football and hockey, just to name a few.
Art Class
Fourth Graders are becoming accomplished artists. We are exploring the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and how to incorporate them into our art to create a piece that communicates our ideas and feelings to viewers. Based on the book, The Day You Begin, these artists created moving self-portraits with self descriptive adjectives designed in the piece.
A new watercolor technique using black glue and salt resulted in gorgeous autumn leaves compositions. Our first ceramic project of the year was a coil pot using several new hand building techniques.
Music
Students have also been rehearsing for their winter concert since mid-October. They have practiced singing independent parts during two-part songs. For the concert, they will perform two songs together, one song with third grade, and a finale with the second, third, and fifth graders.
Next trimester, students can expect to play melodies and simple chords on the ukulele!
