Auction Info Session Next Wednesday
The school auction is the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year! Come join us for an information session next Wednesday, January 17, at 7pm at Steeplejack Brewery (2400 NE Broadway) to learn about this fun event, ask questions, and get involved. Make sure to save the date for the auction this year - April 27! Learn more at www.irvingtonschool.com/auction.
Screendoor Restaurant Night
Screen Door on E Burnside will be hosting our next restaurant night on Tuesday, January 16, from 5-9pm! Serving fine southern food since 2006 and a staple in Portland's food scene, this is not one you're going to want to miss! Screen door will generously donate 10% of dine-in, take-out AND delivery apps count too! Check out their menu here and call 503-542-0880 or order online here. Yum!
Tea with Mr. G.
The next Tea with Mr. G., 9-10am, on Friday, January 19, will focus on special education. Our learning center teacher, Mr. Joe, and our speech language pathologist, Ms. Katie, will attend, and we'll discuss disabilities, the evaluation process, and what services look like at Irvington.
PTA Meeting on Mon, Jan 22
We hope to see many new and familiar faces at the next PTA General Meeting on Monday, January 22. Free dinner and childcare will begin at 5:30pm and the meeting will start at 6. This meeting is especially important as a new proposal will be presented for a grounds improvement project. As always, all are welcome, whether this is your first time or you’ve been to them all!
Clothing Drive Sorting Volunteers
Thank you for your donations this week during the clothing drive! Next week is sorting week and volunteer helpers are still needed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Please sign up here if you’re able to lend a hand.
The Read-A-Thon Is Coming!
Please join us for our Second Annual Irvington Read-A-Thon: When we Read, we SOAR! This is a school-wide inclusive event where EVERYONE is encouraged to participate by reading and logging their minutes to reach school-wide goals and earn school-wide prizes! It is also an optional fundraiser, where your student may request pledges from friends and family to support their reading and our school. This year, proceeds from this fundraiser will be directed towards the literacy supports that the PTA provides to Irvington: individual tutoring, reading software, and supplemental library funding. Everybody reads to support literacy!
Our Read-A-Thon is January 22 to February 2, so this is the week to get set up and ready to go. Like last year (and like the Fun Run earlier this year), we're using Pledgestar as our web-based system that makes it easy for you to log your minutes, request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. Please check your student’s backpack today for all the instructions on how to get started. THIS WEEK you’ll want to make a plan for logging minutes, and start requesting pledges if you’re participating in the fundraising aspect of this event. Let’s take a flight into a good book and support literacy at Irvington!
Author Visit in the Library
On February 13, we will be welcoming local author, Dane Liu, to visit with all of our students! Author visits get students excited about reading and writing and boost the overall reading climate of the school! Flyers have been sent home for book orders and each book will be autographed. Book orders will be supporting our neighborhood children's bookstore, A Children's Place.
