Superintendent's Notes
Issue 28: February 28, 2020
My Thoughts...
I don't think that there are any words that can adequately describe my feelings on the great success of the 2019 CCPS graduation rates that were released at the Maryland Board of Education meeting this week. While state averages remained flat or dropped, CCPS data soared! With a graduation rate of 93.3%, we not only exceeded the state average (86.9%) but also achieved our highest graduation rate EVER! You can read more about this directly below, which also includes a link to our full press release, but I want to congratulate our students and our staff because those numbers are a reflection of their hard work. CONGRATULATIONS!
There have also been some really great events that were held in schools over the past few weeks and have been highlighted below. Be sure to check out the upcoming events included near the end of the newsletter. I would like to thank the Cecil County Chamber, BEPAC, and CCCTA for hosting the Primary Election Candidates' Forum yesterday evening at Cecil College. It was a very informative event with a great turnout of citizens! As we near the election, I encourage you to take time to learn about each of the candidates, especially at the local level which includes the Board of Education, County Council, and County Executive.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey A. Lawson
