STAAR EOC Information
Parents, please be sure to read this closely because there is a lot of important Information about the Upcoming STAAR English 1 and 2 EOC tests.
- On Tuesday, April 10th, all 9th grade students will take the STAAR English 1 EOC, and on Thursday, April 12th, all 10th grade students will take the STAAR English 2 EOC. These are timed tests, and students will have 5 hours to take the test. Students are required to meet the satisfactory standard on both of these tests in order to graduate from high school. Please click here for the alternate bell schedule for both of these days.
- On the day your son or daughter is taking the English I or English II EOC, he or she needs to bring a sack lunch if he or she does not pre-order a sack lunch. Students will have an opportunity to pre-order a sack lunch this Thursday, April 5th when they do a "practice run" to find their testing rooms. Students who are testing will be eating in their testing rooms, rather than in the cafeteria. Students who are not testing will eat in the cafeteria as usual.
- Please note you will not be able to drop off lunches or other materials on either of these days. We know this may seem inconvenient, but it is essential that we provide a safe, secure, and quiet environment for all students who are testing.
- Students are expected to be in attendance all day on both their testing and non-testing day. On the non-testing day, the Clark PTSA is proud to offer our students an opportunity to be a part of an interactive morning of potentially life changing encouragement. Students will have the opportunity to attend a 90 minute presentation by Journeyman Ink, a group of award winning spoken word artists, teachers and painters who use poetry, music and art to grab students attention and hold it with engaging rhythms, visuals and stories that resonate the heart, mind and soul. After visiting with Journeyman Ink, one our of PTSA parent board members commented that Journeyman Ink offers students "much needed Hope and positive encouragement in a time they see and hear so little of that in their social circles."
- We appreciate parents support and understanding during these critical testing days, and we would greatly appreciate parents not checking their students out of school in the middle of the day because all staff members will be involved with the monitoring of this state mandated testing. We want to make these testing days as calm and supportive as possible for our students with the least number of disruptions possible.
- Please know that students are not allowed to have electronic devices in the testing room. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, e-readers and smart watches. Students will be instructed to have all electronic devices off, and they must turn them in to their test administrator. If students are not comfortable giving their electronic devices to the test administrator, then they need to leave them at home on testing days. Use of electronic devices by a student is considered a testing irregularity and could result in his/her test being invalidated.
- Students will be required to complete one hour of silent sustained reading on their non-testing day, so they need to all have a novel with them. Students who are testing will be allowed to read a novel if they finish the test before the five-hour testing period has ended.
- Please also note that 9th grade students who are in AP Human Geography will be taking a practice AP test on their non-testing day, and students in AP World History will take a portion of a practice test and have group study time for the AP test on their non-testing day.
- We encourage students to get a good night's rest before their testing day and eat breakfast! The cafeteria will be serving complimentary breakfast to all students the entire week of April 9th-April 13th. Breakfast is served starting at 8:20 a.m.
- During these testing days, we will have an alternative bell schedule, and students will be in their testing rooms until 3:10 p.m. Please note there will not be off campus athletics during 1st period on April 10th or April 12th due to state testing. Students are to report directly to Clark High School. Student athletes who are involved in an in-season sport during 7th period will ride the shuttle over to PSHS at 4:15 on Tuesday. April 10th. Out of season athletes will not go to PSHS on April 10th. On Thursday, April 12th, ALL off-campus 7th period athletes (both in and out of season) will ride the shuttle to PSHS at 4:03 p.m.
- I thought it might also be helpful for you to have the dates for the other upcoming EOC and AP tests, so you can be sure to avoid scheduling doctor's appointments, trips, etc. on these dates. Please remember these are timed tests, so your son or daughter will need to be on time on the following testing dates:
- Tuesday, May 8-Biology EOC
- Thursday, May 10-Algebra 1 EOC
- Friday, May 11th (P.M.)-AP Computer Science Principles Test
