DON'T FORGET YOUR WATER BOTTLE
TIK-TOK Challenge Craze
Let me begin by saying a huge 'thank you' to the 99.7 percent of our students who chose not to participate in the challenge identified below and let me encourage you to continue not to do so. I also appreciate the students who were bold enough to acknowledge the damage or potential damage caused by this challenge and help move our school, hopefully, to the other side of it.
Over the last week, schools across the United States realized that what seemed to be isolated and unprecedented destructive behavior was actually the collective impact of the "Devious Licking" Tik Tok challenge. The goal of the challenge is to destroy, damage, or steal (licking) property in schools and post it on TikTok. We, like many other schools in our district, state and nation, were victims of this challenge.
Again, I know that less than half of one percent of our students have participated in this craze. However, I also know that 100 percent of our students are at an age of impulsiveness, are intrigued by social media, and care deeply about the perception their peers have of them.
Therefore, parents/guardians, if you could spent less than two minutes helping students understand why this and any future social media challenges like this are not good choices. Trust me, any longer than this and they will wonder why you are 'lecturing' them about something they did not even do.
We appreciate your help and support in keeping our school facility clean, safe, and state-of-the art.
