Mrs. Waller's BHS Choir Class
Assignments week of 4/6/2020 - 4/10/2020
WARM-UPS - We're surviving and thriving and carrying on....
You're going to continue with your octave jumps. You'll start as low as you can go vocally, slide up to the octave above and back down on "Ah." Go up by half steps and continue your octave jumps until you can't go any higher.
Remember, if you're sick, wait 2-3 days before attempting these jumps and try to lightly complete them daily. Stay hydrated for your vocal cords. They need this.
The following warm-up below is FANTASTIC! I want you to complete this at least 3 times a week. Get in a quiet spot and go for it!
Things to Think About For Next School Year
1. We always welcome new voices, new talent, new people of any skill level. Remember that you have to have a Fine Arts class in high school. We need new voices always. If you know someone who would be a good fit or who enjoys singing, please encourage them to sign up.
2. Choir isn't always easy, it isn't always pretty, but you're learning. There will be lots of times that you'll have to perform in ways that you haven't before, in languages you don't know, in areas you've never seen, in situations that are last-minute. I'm going to ask strange warm-up exercises that will stretch your vocal capabilities and will seem odd. These are to help you. Trust is key. You have to trust me as your conductor and your teacher at all times. If this is something that is challenging for you, you need to speak with me privately about Choir. Sometimes students love to sing, but performing with a group is too stressful or scary. It's not for the faint of heart. However, with patience and respect come rewards. You'll be able to see growth if you stick with it, and opportunities will open up.
3. To be in VOCAL ENSEMBLE next year, you need my permission. If I did not see growth, dedication, and focus this year, then there's a good chance that you will not be approved for Vocal Ensemble for next year. You must be willing to put in the time, the work, the memorization, and show respect to the group, your school, your instructor, and yourself. If this has been an issue in the past, again, you need to speak with me. Feel free to call my Google Voice number and we'll discuss where your best fit will be for next year. If you know you came to class prepared, ready to give it your all every day, ready to accept the challenges and learn, then you're fine. Vocal Ensemble is an elite group, a privilege. It is not a right. Not everyone will get in just because they sign up for it.
