Early Life of James Garfield
- James was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 19, 1831.
- Early jobs being a farmer, canal boatman, carpenter, teacher, and a preacher of the Disciples of Christ.
- Was in many battles in the Civil War
- He was a Major General in the Union army’s
- He was elected anti slavery senitor
- Also was in the House of Representatives
- James Garfield ran for president and won against Hays
Family
- As he was teaching he fell in love with one of his students and her name was Lucretia Rudolph.
- They got married and had 7 children 5 girls and 2 boys.
- One of their sons, Harry Augustus Garfield, became president of Williams College.
- An other one of their sons served as Secretary of the Interior in President Theodore Roosevelt's cabinet.
End of James A Garfield
- After severing 4 months in to his peresentcy he got shot on July 2, 1881 by Charles J Guiteau
- He died later that year on September 19, 1881 at the age of 50
