HAVE A VERY ENJOYABLE LABOR DAY WEEKEND. I WILL BE SPENDING THIS WEEKEND WITH MY HUSBAND AND FRIENDS, ENJOYING THE SIGHTS OF NORTH CAROLINA. HAVE A SAFE WEEKEND AND I WILL SEE YOU ALL ON TUESDAY.

THIS WEEK

Another great week in third grade.

It was very exciting for the children this week as they received their new Chromebook. These are fantastic 'brand new' Chromebooks which will allow us to develop our teaching and increase the amount of work we can do online. Each child has their own Chromebook which they are responsible for. They have taken part in various orientation sessions so they understand how to use the Chromebooks - including internet safety.

MATH - We started addition using the column method. We reviewed place value to show the children how to carry numbers across in order to add effectively.

READING - Our lessons focused making mental images when we read. We also began our Mclass reading assessments this week.

SOCIAL STUDIES - We continued with our map work and labeled the states in different areas of the USA using an atlas.

NEXT WEEK

MATH: We will be working on addition and subtraction. We will also be solving some word problems using addition and subtraction.

READING: Mclass will continue next week. We will also be starting our PURR strategies which is a useful tool that helps the children answer questions related to a reading selection. We will also be doing some read aloud books and the children will have activities associated with them. It is so refreshing to see a class so interested in reading!!

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will wrap up our location work next week with a study about Indian Trail and the surrounding area.

** Homework - Please sign your child's agenda on a daily basis to show that your child has completed that night's homework. I expect homework to be turned in on time. Every Monday we write all the homework in our agenda so we know when it is due in. Also, please try and let your child do the homework by themselves, but then check it over with them. We go through homework every day so the children are aware of how they should answer the questions.

ROOM MOM

If you would be interested in being a room mom, I would appreciate the help (especially when it comes to parties and events). Send me an email if this is something you would be interested in., Even if you would like to come in and file papers, listen to readers or help with displays.

WEDNESDAY FOLDERS

Please sign the tops of each piece of work sent home in the Wednesday folder and send back to school the next day. This shows me that you are aware of how your child is doing in school. If you are concerned about any piece of work or grade, this gives you the opportunity to contact me and discuss your child's needs.

BOX TOPS

Please save your box tops and turn them in at any point during the term! First collection will be on Friday 18th September.

BEGINNING OF GRADE TESTS

These will take place on Wednesday 9th September at 8am. Please ensure your child gets an early night and has a good breakfast in the morning. This test can take up to 3 hours. They may have their snack AFTER the test, but will not be allowed any food or water during the test.
