News and Updates from FSMA
You're Invited!
On Friday, October 16th, we will have our 2nd annual Vocabulary Parade. All children should choose a word to represent with a costume and should have the word and a definition written somewhere on their costume (or on a sign).
The event will be held on the street in front of FSMA this year. Please come out and check out the costumes... feel free to bring a chair. We will be closing down French St. beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the event starting at 10:00 a.m.
Making Applesauce
This week some of Kindergarteners made applesauce. In this science activity, children were responsible for everything from start to finish. This means they washed, peeled, chopped, stirred, measured, mixed, and much more. Surprisingly, the children enjoyed the process of making applesauce just as much as they enjoyed the tasting. Following a recipe requires many skills... don't forget to include your child in cooking at home!
Teacher Learning
On Friday, our teachers spent the day with Neuropsychologist Dr. Steven Hughes. In his all-day seminar, he spoke to teachers about how Montessori actually builds a better brain. Similar to the presentation he gave to parents, he cited research that reminds us how powerful this model of education can be. Thanks to the Montessori Teachers Association of Delaware (MTAD) for bringing this learning opportunity to Wilmington.
IDEA Awards
On Friday, the Delaware Charter Schools Network held its 4th annual IDEA Awards to acknowledge charter schools that demonstrate Innovation and Dedication in Education. Nominees included the FSMA Staff for their innovative practices, the FSMA PTO for their impact on our school and our leadership team. All in all, FSMA was nominated for 6 different awards - wow!
