September, 2017 ~ Volume I
It's Good To Be A Panther!
If you've not had a chance to come by and see the renovation progress, I encourage you to do so. I'm happy to take parents and guests on a tour of our new wing! It is beautiful and bright! Phase II of the renovation is underway! We appreciate everyone's patience, understanding and attention to safety as we work through this year under construction. Students and staff have not missed a beat and our instructional program is in full swing!
I am now sending weekly emails to families with calendar updates and information. I'd love to include as many families as possible. If we don't have an updated email address for your family on file, please let us know!
I hope you find the new format for our newsletter both user friendly and engaging. We will post our newsletter on our website, on our facebook page, and on our Twitter account. I will also email it out to families as a link in my Sunday email the week it comes out. Paper copies are available in our office. I welcome your feedback on it!
Enjoy the long weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hammill
Principal

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminders
- Please be reminded that students cannot be dropped off before 8am.
- We appreciate family efforts to be clear with your child's teacher about afternoon plans/routine. Any changes should be submitted to our office by 1pm.
- Thank you for not driving or walking through our bus lane during times of bus traffic!
- We ask that cars leaving campus continue to give our buses the right of way as we release them from campus each afternoon. We appreciate your help!
Attendance/Student Absence Reminders
If your child is going to be absent from school, please remember to call the school office at 434-4557 by 9:00am. Also keep in mind the RCPS attendance policy states a written note is required within three days of the absence as a follow up.
If you know your child is going miss school in advance of them being out, please be sure to contact the office for a Prearranged Absence Form. We may not be able to excuse the absence if this procedure is not followed.
A Note from the Cafeteria
Families, please understand that if you received free/reduced lunch last year, you do not automatically qualify this year. You MUST complete a new application every year. If you have already received a letter from food services notifying you that your student(s) qualify, there is no need for any further action. If you have NOT received a letter, and you have NOT completed an application for the 2017-18 school year, please do so as soon as possible. You can call the office at 434-4557 to request that an application be sent home with your child, or you can stop by the school to pick one up.
Also, please be sure to read the Food & Nutrition Services letter to parents that was sent home with your student.
Our breakfast and lunch menus for the month can be found here: http://pves.rockingham.k12.va.us/breakfastlunch-menu.html
Thank you!
Physical Education Information from Coach Carcamo
*Bring tennis shoes DAILY for PE and recess!
*Layers are great as we will continue to go outside this fall and it can be chilly in the morning!
*My goal is to help students acquire knowledge, skills and abilities needed to remain physically active for an entire lifetime.
*PE rules: Play Nice, Play Safe, Play Fair, Always Do your Best
*A written excuse is required from a doctor when a student is unable to participate in PE. The note should include the nature of the illness/injury, how long the child will be out and alternate activities recommended (ie: a student with a broken arm may be unable to participate in a basketball unit for 2 weeks, but may walk for PE instead) Physical activity limitations would include recess time.
*Students are graded in PE.
*Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at (540) 434-4557.

Notes from Nurse Laurie
We prefer parents keep students home if their child has had a fever and/or vomitting within the past 24 hours. Thanks for your consideration as we work to prevent the spread of illness at PVES!
