The Path to an ARD resulting in Consensus

Laura Otey from Otey and Associates will present a three-day training for school personnel in the skills needed to work collaboratively towards consensus in the emotionally charged environment of ARD meetings. Participants will learn and practice techniques in:
- Define the process of facilitation and demonstrate the role of a facilitator.
- Demonstrate facilitator actions prior to the IEP meeting.
- effective group communication skills.
- identify and demonstrate specific strategies and interventions to improve the IEP process.
- Identify and demonstrate the process of reaching consensus.
- Articulate underlying interests in parent/school staff conflicts.
- Demonstrate strategies and techniques, including the use of visuals, to move through defensiveness, resistance, and impasse.
Upon completion of the 3-day training participants will have met the 18 hour FIEP training that meets the TEA criteria for a facilitator.
