Principal Message

Greetings HMS Families,

Thank you to all who could make Back-to-School Night! It was great seeing some familiar faces, meeting new families, and being all together.

This year we are working to support students’ reading comprehension and literacy skills across all subject areas. We believe this will translate into academic achievement in every class, furthermore this supports our district’s goal of increasing math and literacy skills. These skills will be assessed three time throughout the year using iReady; the first assessment is this month. Here are some ways you can help us at home:

  • Encourage your child to do their very best during the iReady assessment and inform them we use their scores to improve instructional practices in every class, not just reading and math

  • Read together as a family

  • Start or encourage your child to join a book club (check out the OBOB book list here and talk to Ms. Co about joining a team!)

  • Promote choice in what your child wants to read. Graphic novels are great at sparking interest in reluctant readers

  • Suggest books that are movies your child likes. In my house, my daughter has to read the Harry Potter books before watching the movies. This actually has started some good conversations about how different some of the scenes are.

We are off to a great start because of your support and the excellent work of our teachers - thank you!

With gratitude,

Lisa Dailey

Proud Principal

A Message From Our Kitchen Staff

First, thank you for the work you do at home. Raising children takes a community and so does feeding them!

Many of you have inquired about recent media stories regarding the impacts to our meal service program here at TTSD due to the recent disruptions and delays from our supply and food service vendors. You can view a story regarding this situation here: to National Supply Chain Impact. What this challenge means to us is menu items are unfortunately changing daily depending on what is delivered and what we have on hand. Our school nutrition services staff are adapting and being wonderfully creative with our meals. We are committed to serving healthy meals to our students that meet the USDA school meal requirements. (Breakfast is grain, fruit, and milk) (Lunch is grain, protein, fruit, vegetable, and optional milk).

Thank you for your patience and while our menus continue to change, you can always send your child a meal for backup. If they decide they want the school meal, they can save that packed lunch for the next day.

Online picture ordering is OPEN until Sunday, Sept 18

If you have not already ordered school pictures there is still time.
The most efficient and cost-friendly way to order is to visit mydorian.com, search for your school, click the green Order button that corresponds with your school picture day and place your order. This option is available for up to four (4) days after picture day.

Once all of the images have been processed. Any student that has not ordered will receive an email with a unique access code and instructions to preview their image and place an order. All orders placed using the unique access code will be shipped directly to the student’s home.

Did you miss picture day or want to retake your picture?
Find your school’s retake day date and order information on mydorian.com by searching for your school. A student wishing to have their picture retaken should bring their original package back to school and return it to the photographer on retake picture day.

Digital downloads are delivered based on how you ordered.
If you ordered an image download online, you will receive an email with access to your image once it is ready. If you ordered with an envelope, you will receive your download instructions when packages are distributed at the school.

Pay For School Meals ONLINE

Meals are no longer free for all. The universal free meals waiver with USDA has expired. Beginning the 2022-2023 school year, meals will be charged to student accounts. TTSD is no longer using the My School Bucks Program. All funds that were in your student's account with My School Bucks have been carried over and will be accessed through Titan.

Families can apply for free meals online and pay for meals on the Titan Program Website. Click here for Titan FAQ's.

*Within the next couple of weeks you will be receiving a green 2022-2023 lunch application mailed to your home. If completing a paper application is more convenient, please do so. Once completed feel free to drop it off at the school.

Student Medication Policy Reminder

The health office would like to remind you that there are specific state laws in Oregon regarding students taking medication at school (prescription or non-prescription). This is for your student's safety.

Here are some important rules to understand regarding self administration and school administration:

Self Administration

  • A student is allowed to self-administer non-prescription medications when they are able to demonstrate the ability, developmentally and behaviorally, to self medicate and has permission to self-medicate from a school building administrator.
  • A student is allowed to self-administer prescription medications when they are able to demonstrate the ability, developmentally and behaviorally, to self administer medication and have permission to self-administer from a school building administrator, and a prescriber or registered nurse practicing in the school setting.

This is the self administration form: Permission for Student to Self-Medicate

School Administration

  • To administer prescription medication, school personnel must have a written request from the student's parent/guardian which includes signed permission for school staff to give the medication.
  • Written instruction includes: (1) Name of student (2) Name of medication (3) Method (by mouth, etc.) (4) Dosage (5) Frequency—how often it is to be given

This is the school administration form: Medication Administration Record and Parent Consent
