What's Happening in Ms. Anderson's Classroom?

Dear Parents,

It has been such a pleasure having the opportunity to be a part of your son or daughter’s educational journey this year. The school year is in full swing and we are working on many projects in the classroom. In mathematics, we are learning how to effectively recognize one digit numbers and applying that to counting objects that are given to us. In science, we are learning about the life cycle in animals and people as well. The example that I have demonstrated in our lesson is the life cycle of a caterpillar. To get the full experience, we have brought in a live caterpillar so that the students are able to witness the caterpillar going through the different stages, and turning into a butterfly. In social studies, we have been discussing the roles and responsibilities of different community workers. We took a field trip this past week and went to the fire station to witness the daily life of a fire fighter and how important they are to our community.

For language arts, we are learning about the concept of rhyming. The goal for this lesson is to be able to produce a word that rhymes with a given word. To introduce them to this topic, I will be reading “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss. While rhyming can be a tricky concept, activities such as rhyming bingo and matching rhyming cards will assist in the learning process by making the learning experience an interactive one! I have asked the students to find words around their house that rhyme so that they can make their own booklet of rhyming words! Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to meeting with you soon!

Thank you,
Kaitlin Anderson
