Head Lice
Head lice are small insects that attach to the hair close to the scalp. Nits (eggs) are white in color and can also attach to the base of the hair shaft. The lice and nits cause inflammation to the skin, leading to excessive itching. This is commonly seen around the base of the neck or back of the ears, although it can be anywhere on the scalp. While head lice are a nuisance, they do not spread disease and are not a health issue. Should a case of lice be brought to the attention of the school nurse, the school nurse will maintain confidentiality of the student’s identity, verify the presence of an active infestation, and bring it to the attention of the student’s parent/guardian. Students should not be excluded from school. Please contact the school nurse if further information or resources are needed.
CRES Music and Art Programs
We wanted to give a big heartfelt Thank You to Thomas McDonald for raising $200 for our CRES Music and Art Programs. Thomas had the idea to have an "Art Birthday Party" this year and collect donations for our Arts Program at Cumberland Road. Thank you, Thomas, for your support.
Kind Regards,
CRES PTO
CRES families, please start saving plastic lids and bottle tops and send them to school . They will become parts to a colorful permanent recycled art project that will beautify our entryway. All students will participate in this special art project. A collection box will be placed by the front doors. A vast amount are needed! Collection will be ongoing, as the pieces will not be made until April.
Thank you! Denise Stevens, Art Teacher
The Book Fair is Coming!!!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at CRES on the days of Parent/Teacher conferences. This year there are extended hours for parents that wish to shop on their own. Students will NOT be dismissed from class to shop at the book fair; they will need to shop with a family member in the evening or online. The fair will be set up in the CRES Library from 1:00-8:00 on October 21st and from 1:00-7:00 on October 22nd.
Visit our page online at: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/hse-cres
Our online fair will be available October 20th -November 3rd if you cannot make it to the actual fair, or if you want to shop with more choices.
Our theme this year is: Sir Readalot’s Castle: Enter the Kingdom of Books! Please consider supporting your CRES library while providing your child with some great books! All sales help fund new books and resources for our library!
In order to have a successful fair, I need parent volunteers. I will be scheduling volunteers for 2 hour shifts each evening. Please contact Mrs. Hicks if you can help! 594-4170 or khicks@hse.k12.in.us

Pop Tab Collection Program
1,000,000 POP TABS for RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE!
The students at CRES have started a project for Riley Hospital/Ronald McDonald House. Our goal is to collect one million pop tabs! (one pound= 1000 pop tabs) Water jugs have been placed in all five grade levels-4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st and Kindergarten/Early Childhood. Please send your pop tabs from aluminum cans in a box or bag with your child any day to school. Ask your neighbors and relatives to save them, too! We are proud that CRES is helping to ‘pick up the tab’ for needed funds to support Indiana’s only “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment.
To many, a pop tab is just a piece of aluminum with one purpose – to open a can. But to the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana, the pop tab is a valuable resource. Why? Collected pop tabs are recycled, generating much-needed funds to support the House and the nearly 1,900 families they serve each year.
Collecting tabs is a great way for all of us to really make a difference in lives of families and children in need-not to mention learning about the importance of recycling. THANK YOU for your support.
Redistricting Information
On our HSE homepage we have redistricting information under the DeJONG/RICHTER logo. Please help get the word out and encourage people to check it often for updates.
