Classroom News
1. Lunch with Your Child:
Our school is bursting at the seams so the cafeteria seating is limited. There is only one parent table so be aware that if you come, you may not have a seat. Due to county policy, parents CANNOT sit at the class table with their child.
2. Supplies:
Back to school flu season is in full swing and we are in need of tissues, lysol wipes, and hand sanitizers. We have gone through two boxes of tissues this week already so every little thing helps. Thank you to everyone who has been donating items!
3. Homework
Homework sheets will be sent home Monday morning. I received many back this week so I am happy these are being well received!
Curriculum
Reading: This week we will continue our Non-Fiction unit. We focused last week on Text Features such as illustrations, graphs, charts, keywords, etc. This week we will continue to go over these features as we read but we will begin talking about Text Structures. Text Structures are how the author organizes the text they write such as compare and contrast, chronological, cause and effect, problem and solution, etc. You can practice these very easily at home by just asking students to identify the text features within their non-fiction books at home. If they do not have any, National Geographic Kids and Epic! are great resources!
*Our Epic! Class code is pcl3865
Writing: Students will continue to working on Personal Narratives this coming week.
Spelling: You will find the spelling list attached to this Newsletter as well as on the homework. Students will continue to have their tests on Friday. They do have time to practice at school but home practice is also beneficial.
Math: We will continue our third Unit of Math this week, Stories in Addition and Subtraction. Students will be learning how to use number lines, landmark numbers, decomposition, and expanded form to add and subtract. If you are practicing at home, please try to use these methods. We will not go over the standard algorithm this year as a class. There are youtube videos and I can surely be a resource if you would like to learn more about these strategies. I have linked two youtube videos to go over Number Line and Expanded Form in case you are curious. You students can also show you how each of these work because they started using them in second grade.
