Sunrise NEWS 9/2/22
A message from the principal
Welcome to the new school year!
For those who were able to join us at open house, it was great to see you! The students and families enjoyed connecting with Sunrise staff, and students were excited to see friends they haven't seen since June!
This year brings a renewed excitement as we are able to do "business as usual". We are looking forward to having our parents back in the building volunteering, helping with special projects/events, or visiting for lunch.
This newsletter provides updates and important information in various areas throughout the school. Please take time to review this information so you're up-to-date on our policies and procedures for the upcoming school year. We are looking forward to the best school year yet!
School Security System
If you will have someone other than a parent picking your child up at school and they are not listed as an emergency contact for your child, please call the office or send a note to let us know you've authorized this person to take your child out of school.
Attendance
There is a high correlation to attendance and student achievement, so it's essential that our students are at school everyday unless they are ill. When possible, please make appointments for students before or after the school day. If students have an appointment during the school day, they can still come to school before/after the appointment. When your child will be absent from school, call our attendance line to report the absence @ 763-433-5004.
Per state statute schools are required to monitor attendance closely and provide notification to families when their children have reach a certain number of absences. You can expect to receive an attendance letter when your child has missed 3 days, 6 days, and 10 days and beyond. You will receive this letter in the mail.
Parent drop-off and pick-up
If your child is not riding the bus, this section is for you!
We have many families who drive their children to and from school. To ensure safety for our students and staff supervising the arrival and dismissal process, please take note of our processes and expectations for arrival/dismissal.
Arrival
- Supervision is provided starting at 9:15. Students may not exit their vehicle until that time.
- Students must exit the vehicle on the passenger side of the car and can only do so when the vehicle is in the drop-off zone, between the two orange cones. Parents stay in the car. Staff are available to assist students.
- We ask that families say their good-byes and have backpacks and belongings ready to go before they enter the drop-off zone.
Dismissal
- Students are dismissed from school at 4:00.
- As parents arrive, both lanes on the outside of the parking lot should be used. Vehicles will use a zipper merger as they approach the pick-up zone, between two orange cones.
- Students must enter the car on the passenger side of the car. Parents stay in the car. Staff are available to assist students.

Child nutrition update
Joining your child for lunch
Parents will be able to visit for lunch this year starting September 19. During the first two weeks of school we will be working on procedures and routines. If you plan on joining your child for lunch and would like to purchase a lunch, the cost of an adult lunch is $4.95. You may pay for your lunch through your child's lunch account, otherwise we ask that you have exact change.

Reminders from health services
If your child takes medication during the school day, prescription or over the counter, please be sure to contact health services as there is some paperwork involved with medication administration. Additionally, if your child has an allergy or other health condition, please let our health office staff know so we can have a safety plan in place for your child. If you have any questions related to health services, please contact our LSN, Mary Brown at 763-433-5006 or at Mary.Brown@ahschools.us.
