A Glimpse of this Past Week...
What a wonderful week of Celebrating our Catholic Schools! Each day began in prayer focused on groups of people who are so instrumental in ensuring that our Catholic education is top notch, the Parents Association provided unbelievable goodies each day of the week for the Staffulty, and the week was capped off with the amazing mass that we had on Thursday! We were so honored to have Bishop Malloy celebrating the Mass as well as so many of our Deanery Priests in attendance! I don't know about anyone else, but I admit, I got quite teary eyed when the students from SS Peter and Paul brought up the gifts...
This is one thing that I think we all need to remember in our hearts... that ultimately we are here for the students. If you had looked around the gym at mass on Thursday morning and soaked in the magnitude of what was there... all of these young people gathered together to celebrate the Eucharist. This is our purpose... to reach out to each of these young people in heart and soul, in mind and skill, in mercy and in grace. We have to always remember that it will be these young people who will become those who will be taking care of us, our families, our country, and our future eventually. What better way to ensure what is good and right than to focus on developing the faith within these students.
As we reflect on another Catholic Schools Week come and gone, we might again reflect on what our mission is here at Marian. We will continue to WELCOME each and every child that walks through our doors to be educated in the mind and the faith, as well as all of their families. We need to realize that every single encounter with our Marian community should be an opportunity to PROCLAIM our faith and love for Jesus Christ and His Word, in what we say, in what we do, and in what we expect of each other. We will continuously commit ourselves to FORMING our students' minds, bodies, and souls through every facet of our school. We do all of these things every single day in order to be confident that every day we are SENDING our students out into this world, ever mindful of their faith and how their actions and decisions, whether great or small, will affect others.
I pray that this week had as much impact on you as it did for me, as it re-centered me in my faith and my vocation to serve in Catholic schools. Please be proud of this calling you have to be a part of something bigger. My thanks to all of you for your sacrifice to this school, these students, this staff, and the Marian community as a whole.
Looking ahead...
There is much to look forward to this week!
Tonight, 6:30 - 9:00 pm, is our 8th grade/freshman activity night! This is a great time for our current freshman and some mentors to mingle with our 2018-19 incoming freshmen! There will be inflatable fun, food, games, and dancing! If you are supervising tonight, see you around 6!
Tuesday will certainly feel like a whirlwind because it is a Late Start day! We also have the Blood Drive during the school day and the third quarter Principal's Coffee where Ms. Novy meets with parents to chat about all of the wonderful things that are happening at Marian.
>>Another thing to note about Tuesday: Administration will be taking about 15 minutes of your 9th period as we will be calling all students and staff down to Lander's Pavilion for brief All School Assembly. It will involved a recap of Catholic Schools Week, and words of encouragement for successfully completing the school year. We are sorry that this comes with short notice, but we believe that this brief assembly will be of benefit to all. Thank you for your flexibility.
Thursday is our Sixth Grade Visit Day. This is a regular school day for most of our students, however, there will be quite a few students out of the class to help with this event. Students include: Mentors as well as Cinderella cast/crew. Please review these lists to identify which students are yours as well as the times in which they will be out of your classroom. Remember that this absence is treated as a field trip and students are responsible to make up anything they missed.
Also happening on Thursday is the IDEA class MVP pitch. This is an essential element in our students creating and building their business, as it allows them to "Pitch" their concept to a board of directors as well as asking for "seed" money to create a prototype of their product or service. A list of students participating in this pitch will be provided before Thursday, as these students will either be missing their 3rd or 4-6th period class. Just like above, please treat this absence as an internal field trip. In addition, there are several sophomores who have signed up in Guidance to be allowed to watch the MVP pitch, as they are considering taking the IDEA course next year. If a student provides you with a pass from Mrs. Diamond, please allow them to go and watch the event in room 231.
Finally, this coming week had been lovingly called "Tech Week" by our cast and crew of the upcoming musical, "Cinderella." As most of you know, this is typically a high-stress week for those students involved in this production. Thank you for not only supporting them by coming to the production Friday, Feb., 9th through Sunday, Feb. 11, but also supporting them in your classrooms.
Have a blessed weekend and week ahead!

Reminder about GCN Training!
Back in August, you should have received an email from support@gcntraining.com titled GCN Mandated Trainings 2017-18. In that email you will find a note describing the way to log in to the GCN online training website. Once in, you will notice that you have a personalized list of trainings that are to be completed by April 2, 2018. These are videos that are required either yearly or periodically (please reference Appendix B in your Faculty Handbook) by staff based on your position here at Marian. This is part of your professional responsibility and important for you to be knowledgeable about, so if you have yet to attend to this, please make this a priority. Suggested times to complete would be during plan periods, over a weekend, in the evenings, or over school breaks. You can do them one at a time... you do not have to take all at once. If you experience trouble logging in, please contact the GCN Tech Team (listed on email) or Ms. Novy.
Once you have completed all of your trainings, please print out your certificate (tab found on your GCN Dashboard), and give Ms. Novy a copy.
