A Quick Hello to Let You Know We’re Getting Ready!

Dear HBMS Bears!

It is my pleasure to welcome our incoming 6th graders and new families to HBMS and also to welcome back our returning Bears! I am finding the start of each year to be more exciting than the one before! I love working with our students, our teacher teams, and parent partners to set a course for our school. We have been navigating through a global pandemic, keeping our focus on safety and student learning. This upcoming year our vision is the same and the need for students to learn and grow is still as important as ever before.

My vision for our school is that Hannah Beardsley Middle School will be a school

  • Where learning is valued and enjoyed

  • Where students become socially and emotionally confident citizens in a complex world

  • Where academics are personally engaging, and rigorous

We know that middle school is a dynamic transition time between elementary school and high school. Our staff is highly qualified and passionate about kids at this level. So we have taken steps to make their learning experience rich and tailored to their unique needs as middle school students. If there is ever anything you need or if you have ideas to share, I welcome your questions and input. I hope that you will download our mobile app, or bookmark our website at, and enjoy the information that we are committed to sharing with our school community.

With my warmest regards,

Mrs. Cathy Alberth

6th Grade Physicals and Immunizations Required to Start School

Are you ready?

Illinois state law requires that children entering Kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade must have a new complete physical examination on file with the school health office before the first day of school or the child will not be allowed to start school. Completed forms should be given to your child's school either by mail, email, or they may be dropped off at the school office. For contactless delivery, we have a blue box outside of the door each day until 3:45 pm for you to drop those in. To send by email, go to your school's website Contact Us page and choose Leadership & Office Staff to find the email for your school nurse.

The 2021-2022 School Year Starts August 18!!

Let's do this! We are so excited to get back to teaching and learning and providing our students with a rich academic and social middle school experience. The basics you need to start are:

  • A District 47 issued Chromebook with an internet connection AND a way to charge the device. 6th graders will be issued a D47 Chromebook at Bear Camp or on their first day of school.
  • Up to date information in ParentVue (email address, phone number, and address) Go to the District 47 Website ( and click "ParentVue" to review your login and demographic information for accuracy. This is critical in order for you to receive information from school and also for emergency notifications. If unable to update, please email an Administrative Assistant with the correct information.
