Happy New Year!
Cooper Landing School Updates
Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break and made beautiful memories with your friends and families. Today is the first day of the second semester. Students in all grades continue testing this week. Please be sure your child is well-rested and has a good breakfast so they can concentrate fully.
Skiing
We do not have any news to share at this time except that Alyeska has reinstated a ski school manager and we hope to have more information soon. Fingers crossed!
Dates to Remember
- Friday, January 12 - Early Release - Students will be dismissed at 1:45.
- Thursday, January 25, 5:00 - PAC Meeting followed by Title 1, Semester 2 Planning Meeting
PAC Officers
We are in need of a PAC president, secretary, and treasurer. It sometimes becomes difficult to conduct the business of the PAC without officers. Please consider volunteering.
Substitutes
Cooper Landing School is in need of substitutes for all positions: teacher, instructional aide, special education aide, secretary, and custodian. If you are interested, please go to the KPBSD website to apply: https://kpbsd.org/departments/assistant-superintendent/instructional-services/hr/substitute-information/
Teacher substitutes need only to have a high school diploma or GED. A teaching certificate is not required.
Winter Gear
If anyone has any extra children's winter gloves, the school could use a few spares.
Please make sure your child has a warm jacket, hat, gloves, snow pants and boots. If it is convenient for you, and your child has extras, these things can be kept at the school. Please make sure to label each item with your child's name.
Community School Activities
Volleyball - Thursdays, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Walking/Work-out - TBD
Tot Time - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:45 am - 12:45 pm
District Office has informed us that since there is no student contact for Community School activities, background checks are no longer needed unless you are issued a key to the school.
Field Trips
Parents who wish to accompany their child on field trips (whether or not you are driving a student other than your own), must complete a background check. To complete the process, please click here: https://kpbsd.org/departments/assistant-superintendent/instructional-services/hr/volunteer/

MAPS TESTING
Your students will have testing for three days THIS week. Please make sure they arrive on time, eat a healthy breakfast and get a good nights sleep. These are things we can all do to help our students to have a more settled and successful testing time.
ALASKA SCIENCE ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
If your student was in grades 5, 8, or 10 last year and they took the Alaska Science Assessment, their results are available in the Test Results section of PowerSchool. Please reach out to Cindy McKibben if you have any questions.
