In writing we have been working on properly responding to short answer questions to ensure we are answering the entire question, writing proper and complete sentences, and proving our answers with text evidence/details. In Social Studies we are learning more about the beginning of Texas and early Indian settlers.
I wanted to remind you all that the level of rigor and expectations in class rises in fourth grade from than from previous years. I give constant reminders and model my expectations consistently every day. It is their job to take what is taught and apply it to their work!

In Science we are continuing to discuss matter and physical properties. We will be concentrating on the differences in mixtures and solutions and what substances are.
5th grade science is concentrating on mixtures and solutions as well. We are continuing to work with properties of matter. Please have your children observe and discuss mixtures and solutions with you.

Mrs. Rasco's Readers
In ELAR, we are continuing our unit on Author's Purpose and Craft. We have been analyzing and discussing why author's make the choices they do. We are also continuing to work on our writing and our spelling words.
In Social Studies, we are starting a new unit over the Thirteen Colonies and the events leading up to the US declaring independence from Britain. This has been great, and the students really seem to be enjoying it.
A few Reminders:
- Please send students with water bottles every day. We really don't want them drinking from the fountains because of germs, and it takes away from class time.
- If your student is running for Mayor, we NEED their posters ASAP so we can put them in the hallways.
- Spelling Tests are every Thursday. New words will be sent home every Thursday. Please practice with your child.
Fifth Grade Chaps – Go LCU!!
