Proud Mama Bear!
Being a principal is hands down, the most challenging job I have ever had, but it is also the most rewarding, aside from being a mother. As a mom, you are fiercely protective of your kids and when they are hurt, you hurt, and when they do great things, you beam with pride. Whenever they fail or succeed, as a parent, you feel pride in their accomplishments and want to support in their failures. Either way, you feel your children are a reflection of you as a parent. Here at JBD, We are getting noticed and I have been complimented about your accomplishments. As the mama bear, I share your success and want to support you though your challenges. Many of you have taken professional risks and you all are on fire. The other night, we were honored at the Virginia Beach Educational Foundation for receiving 7 grants (we had the MOST...even more than ODC and that NEVER happens!). We have a dedicated group of teachers spending their personal Saturday time to go to the Reading Conference and the Dey membership list for the Reading Council is the largest representation ever. On top of that, we have a cadre of teachers that are going to the Virginia Technology conference in December and two Design Fellows. But wait, there's more! When my boss, Kathy Starr came to visit about the Plan for Continuous Improvement, she closed by stating how the atmosphere here is so positive, friendly, and happy. One can only see it and feel the power when walking through our shiny clean halls, taste the yummy cafeteria food, and observe the high level of engagement that is taking place in every classroom. This is because of all of YOU. If you are reading this, I mean YOU!
So as your proud mama bear, I appreciate you continuing to try new things and fail, succeed, try again, and fail again. Continue to take the risks and jump out of the comfort zones as that is where the magic happens. I am loving the reflection in the JBD mirror of progress and innovative education. This proud mama bear only asks that you can make that reflection show about ten less pounds!
:)

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD
I would like to choose Erin Harvey for the "I Make a Difference" Award. She was the first person outside of my 1st grade team to reach out to me. As a new teacher here it meant a lot to have a member of another grade level introduce themselves and get to know me. She has offered her supplies, ideas, and help regarding how things work at JBD. I really appreciate how every time I see her in the school she has a smiling face. Thanks for all you do to support the kids and staff.
