Face Coverings - New Policy

Effective March 7, face coverings will become optional, indoors and outdoors, on NYC public school grounds and on school buses, for all K-12 students and staff with a few exceptions. Please note that while wearing a face covering will no longer be required, anyone who chooses to wear a mask may continue to do so.

Face coverings are required:

Face coverings after return from 5-day isolation: Anyone returning on Day 6 after a positive COVID-19 diagnosis or after having COVID-19 symptoms without testing is still required to wear a well-fitting mask at all times on school property through Day 10.

Face coverings in medical rooms/nurses’ offices: Wearing a face covering is still required in medical rooms/nurses’ offices, as well as in School Based Health Centers. Nurses will have masks on hand for anyone entering who needs one.

Social Distancing

NEW: There are no requirements for social distancing in public spaces, including classrooms, cafeterias and auditoriums, unless the person is returning from isolation. As per NYS guidance, those that are required to still wear face coverings due to returning from isolation should distance when they have to remove their mask for eating.

Visitor Policy

NEW: A face covering is now optional for visitors.

All visitors wishing to enter DOE school buildings must continue to show proof of having at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, show identification, and complete the daily health screening form.

High School Applications

High School Applications close March 11th.

  • In response to feedback from community leaders, families, and schools, borough- and zone-based admissions priorities will remain in place this year. This means that some high school programs will continue to prioritize zoned applicants and/or applicants who live or currently attend middle school in a specific borough. District-based admissions priorities were eliminated last year and will continue to not be used in high school admissions.

  • For high school programs that screen applicants, multiple measures will be used to evaluate students this year. These measures will include submissions of work samples from last year, such as essays or reports, and first-semester grades from this school year.

  • Right now, families of current eighth grade students (and interested ninth grade students) can get ready by creating a MySchools.nyc account, exploring program options, and saving favorite programs.

  • Learn more at schools.nyc.gov/High.

Students must be in school everyday. If your child is absent, for any reason, we will reach out to you to see how we can help. Your child may not miss school for doctor's appointments (unless there is an emergency). Please schedule all appointments in advance and after school hours. If you need help with getting your child to school, please contact our Social Worker, Ms. Espinal at aespinal31@schools.nyc.gov

Vaccination Portal

Using the Vaccination Portal and your child’s DOE account information, you can upload an image of your child’s vaccination card or NYC Excelsior Pass to the DOE’s vaccine portal at vaccine.schools.nyc. Submitting that NYC DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION information will support New York City’s pandemic response and recovery efforts, helping to ensure that our school communities remain safe and healthy. School Visitor Policy Reminder: All visitors who are eligible to be vaccinated must show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination to enter a school building. Visitors do not include students attending school in a DOE building.

If you need help to upload your child's vaccine card please contact Ms. K at kbarahona4@schools.nyc.gov
