BSE Commons Space being readied for Makerspace!

Many of you have taken notice to the fact that I have removed all of our trophies and awards from the common's display. Why would one principal do such a thing?

Recently the team leaders spent the day brainstorming the spaces in our school. This brainstorming occurred after a visit to FHS College and Career Academy and the Amy Beverland Reggio Early Childhood Center. Our quest was to find and repurpose our spaces with our students fully in mind.

Makerspace: A place where students can access materials, construct, build, and apply their thinking in a collaborative manner.

The Plan: Glass shelves out, wood shelves in. Tables are built for working space in the commons, baskets and bins are filled with materials ranging from cotton balls to sticks to glue and tools. Students have open access to these materials during project or collaboration time during their learning day.

Trust: Trust is at the center of Reggio influence where we speak highly of the image of a child. The BSE staff will engage in great discussion around our image of a child the remainder of the year. Our quest is to shift the child to the center of all that we do where they are trusted and given choice throughout their learning environment.

A special thank you to Mr. Kussy who is building our shelves and donating 6 repurposed tables for our Makerspace area. We hope to see the installments in the next few weeks. Soon after I'll be asking for any donations for the space. I hope you will be able to help out and so our Makerspace becomes a living working constructivist zone!

Holiday Gift Giving

Spread good cheer!

Pinterest Takes Holiday Gift Giving to New Heights

Some of our favorite holiday traditions involve sweet treats, and at Fishers Parks & Recreation, we love to spread holiday cheer to our friends, family and neighbors! Milk & Cookies is a program designed to help you try some of those creative Pinterest crafts you can never find time to complete. First, you’ll be able to decorate a mug using Sharpies, and then we’ll bake the mug to ensure the designs last forever. While the mug is baking, you’ll be able to layer the ingredients to a delicious cranberry and white chocolate oatmeal cookie. Then you have to decide who gets to receive your cookie in a jar! Join us on Thursday, November 19 at Roy G. Holland Memorial Park building to create your cookie in a jar from 6 to 7 p.m.

Fishers Parks & Recreation strive to host diverse programs that allow residents of all ages the opportunity to get together and complete fun crafts and activities. Milk & Cookies is the perfect night out with friends for residents of all ages. Visit the Fun Guide for similar programs offering opportunities to spend time with friends while trying something new. This program costs residents $12 and nonresidents $18. Parents, registration and participation are both required during this program.

Registration closes November 12, so head online to secure your spot, today!

Honor Veterans Day by participating in GI Go Fund’s “Jeans For Troops” fundraising drive to benefit returning Military Veterans.
