Words of Wisdom

"The smallest good deed is better than the grandest good intention." ~ Unknown

Have you ever had the intention of doing something grand and selfless...something like taking a service vacation to spend a week building homes for the needy or helping build reliable sources of water in developing countries? Maybe it was an intention to spend a weekend helping an older relative clean out a packed garage or attic. These are all honorable intentions, but busy lives get in the way.

Here's an idea: Trim down those intentions. Spend a Saturday morning tutoring a child at-risk; plant a tree in a city park; take cookies to an older relative. These small, but good deeds are far better than all the good intentions in the world.

Dedication Day!

Tuesday October 26 is CPA's 27th Annual Dedication Day, where we take time to re-dedicate ourselves to the vision and mission of Community of Peace Academy. CPA students will watch a livestream of an assembly in the morning, featuring student performances, artwork, and speakers. A video of the program will be shared with our school community--including families--after the livestream concludes.

Vision, Mission, and Core Values

This week as we celebrate Dedication Day, we hope all members of the CPA community will take some time to reflect on the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of CPA. What can each of us do in our own lives to help the CPA community uphold these values?

VISION:

Creating an educated, empowered and ethical community.

MISSION:

Fostering academic excellence and character development through the education of the whole person – mind, body and will.

CORE VALUES:

Academic Excellence. CPA students are prepared to thrive and to lead in a multicultural 21st century world with confidence, compassion, intelligence, and positive regard for all.

Relationships. At CPA, learning happens through relationships and thrives within a caring and value-rich community.

Peace. CPA is a diverse community of students, parents, and staff dedicated to creating a peaceful school environment in which all members are treated with unconditional positive regard.

Middle School Chess Club

Attention Middle School students and families! Middle School Chess Club is starting soon. Interested students should fill out a permission slip this week and turn it in to their ethics teacher. More information can be found on the permission slip, or you can see Mr. Dennis or Mr. Zbacnik with any questions.

LGBT History Month: Allyship

At CPA, we believe in working to ensure equity for all. Whether we ourselves identify as LGBT+ or not, we can all be allies for the LGBT+ community. Check out PFLAG's website for great tips and tools to learn more about how to be a supportive, affirming, and effective ally for your LGBT+ friends, family members, classmates, colleagues, and neighbors.

Weather & Clothing

As we know, Minnesota weather can change quickly, and this time of year we see drastic swings in temperature and other weather issues. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing to be comfortable and safe throughout the day, including at arrival, recess, and dismissal. Thank you!

Why Get Vaccinated?

Check out this post to learn the top 4 reasons to get the COVID 19 vaccine!

All Minnesota residents age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The CDC recommends that everyone who can get vaccinated should do so at the first opportunity available to them.

Seniors & families: The FAFSA is Open!

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available! The FAFSA is the tool used to apply for financial aid to cover the cost of college. Visit this website for more information and to apply. See CPA's Guidance Counselor Ms. Maslowski if you have any questions or need assistance.
