Falcon Memo
April 7, 2024
From the desk of Mrs. Rosas-Saunders
2 School Days until the first STAAR Test
Wednesday is when we will officially kick off STAAR season. The next few days we need to be boosting our students morale, not diminishing it. Please make sure you have completed your students encourage-mint letters given to you last week by Ms. Nieves and Mrs. Haralson. As a reminder, if you are going to be out on Wednesday, even it is is late Tuesday that you make this decision, you MUST notify Dr. de la Pena and your T-TESS appraiser....we have only a few people available to fill in for test administrators.
We hope that everyone enjoyed the drawings this past week for the gift cards/paper. To continue our morale boosts for the staff....starting this Monday, you may wear jeans for the rest of the year!
TEACHERS: READ THIS!!!
MANDATORY meeting during your conference period, Tuesday April 9th
Please make sure that you report to the CoLab during your conference period on Tuesday, April 9th. We will be briefly going over any questions you may have about testing and go over the checklists one more time. This meeting is for all teachers and paras (anyone involved in the testing process)
Solar Eclipse
Monday, April 8th
The eclipse is expected to occur roughly around 1:24 pm. We will be monitoring the time and the progress. Please do not take your students outside until the announcement is made. You will report to your Fire Drill location. Once outside, please ensure that your students have their glasses and put them on.
Transfer Fair
If you have placed yourself on the transfer list, please make plans to attend the Transfer Fair at JECA on Monday, April 15th. If you have not placed yourself on the list, but are considering it, I would do that before next Monday.
Extended Day Tutoring
We will begin extended day tutoring on Tuesday, March 19th. This is the tutoring that will be focused on STAAR prep. This tutoring is different from your daily tutoring and has specific guidelines. Each student that attends MUST have a pass from the teacher. We have chosen the days for tutoring which are listed below as well.
Days of the week:
Tuesdays- Math (all grade levels)
Wednesdays- RLA (all grade levels)
8th grade Science and Social Studies TBD
Time:
3:45-4:45
Required # of Students:
10
This means, you MUST have 10 students attend and sign in for you to be able to get paid for this tutoring.
If a subject would like more than 1 day per week, please speak with Ms. Nieves and Mrs. Rosas-Saunders and we will create the schedule.
**As a reminder, this is not normal tutoring, this is STAAR prep, so you are focused on low performing TEKS**

Daily Duty Expectations
We are having an issue with teachers not reporting to campus on time, without communication, and not reporting to their designated duty on time.
- Report time
As a reminder, your report to campus is 7:45 am and you are expected to have your door open at 8:00 and in the hall monitoring students.
If you are running late, you MUST contact your T-TESS appraiser to inform them so we can make plans accordingly
2. Duty Expectations
Every teacher has a designated day, time and location. The expectation is that you report on your designated day. If you know you are going to be out that day, you will need to find a teacher to switch and ensure that your duty is covered. If you switch a duty, you MUST contact Mr. Matamoros of this change.
On Friday, every teacher who has morning duty is to report to your location in the morning and every teacher who has afternoon duty is to report to your location in the afternoon.
If we continue to see a trend of teachers not meeting these expectations, we will start to have individual conversations and memos of expectations.
I want to thank those teachers who are consistently on time and report to duty, it is noticed and greatly appreciated.

We wanted to make everyone aware of the updated website that will explain the process and what to do for all stakeholders during emergency situations. We encourage you to please share this website on all campus communications, attach it to your websites, discuss it at parent and faculty meetings, and ask that teachers to talk about it in class. Grade Reminders
Grade Changes and Student Eligibility
The JISD Grade Change form and the process are required regardless of the relation to student eligibility but is of the upmost importance when related to our students’ abilities to participate in extra- and co- curricular activities.
Grade changes may ONLY be accepted for two reasons:
1. Teacher Error
2. Incompletes
Grade changes following a grading period cannot be made due to accepting late work after the end of the grading period or for changes made to grades for any reason other than the above two listed. Student work MUST be received by the end of the school day on the last day of the grading period. Teachers are responsible for the maintenance of the gradebook. This is for the betterment of our students and to effectively provide feedback on student performance to parents. Each campus is to designate an administrator responsible for monitoring the entry of grades per the grading guidelines.
Grades in the gradebook should reflect the following:
Secondary:
• Minimum of three tests/ major projects per nine weeks
• Minimum of two quizzes/daily assignments per week for each content area or course
• Grades entered weekly and updated by the following Monday after the receipt of the assignment.

Helpful information on which admin to contact
The Kirby Middle School Choir and Kirby Middle School Life Skills students came together to sing the national anthem at the Judson ISD Special Olympics! It was incredible to witness voices harmonize and unite, setting the perfect tone for the ceremony. This enriching experience truly brought all JISD students closer together. Huge shoutout to Kirby Athletics for their support in making this event memorable and keeping the Kirby spirit alive!
