ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Mother Nature blessed us with sunshine for our Arbor Day Celebration today! Although Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, we held our annual planting and recognition today due to April Vacation. Students in grades K-4 contributed short presentations, poetry and song during our program. Charlie Proutt, from Horsford Nursery, joined us and brought us a Bur Oak tree. We love that the CCS campus continues to grow and sustain the many trees that have been added annually as part of our Arbor Day recognition.
Other recent work on beautifying our grounds includes work in the Architects garden by grades 3 and 4. There is new signage for our recently planted seeds and the individual boxes and planting areas have been cleaned out and spruced up. We are excited to see how our pollinator garden in this area attracts pollinators - essential parts of our ecosystem, which is studied in different ways by many grades at CCS.
We have four important celebrations planned next week. On Monday, our middle level Chorus groups (grades 5-8) will present their Spring Concert at 7:00 p.m.. Our middle level Band groups (grades 5-8) will present their Spring Concert on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. On Friday morning, we will host Grandparent/Grandfriends Day in grades K-4, culminating with a K-4 Spring Music Performance. Friday afternoon is Kindergarten Visiting Day, where we will welcome our incoming 2019/2020 Kindergartners and their families for a short information session, bus ride, refreshments and book gifts!
Wishing you a warm, wonderful weekend!
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

CCS BIKE WEEK IN PE
Hello Folks!
Matthew Kent here, our 3-8 grade physical educator here at CCS. I am writing everyone today because I was just informed that our school was selected to participate in the Local Motion Bike Week program, and we will be riding here at CCS from June 10th to June 14th. Hopefully it will be dry enough by then! This is a program that is sponsored by Local Motion, which is a statewide bike and walk advocacy nonprofit organization located in Burlington, VT. They loan out trailers filled with bikes of all sizes to Vermont schools who apply for them, and we were lucky enough to be selected to receive one! We were picked last year as well, and overall, I believe it was a huge hit with the grades who participated. With that being said, I also understand that it could create some anxiousness for some students, especially those who may not be comfortable riding just yet. To that point, we have a wide range of bikes to accommodate all skill levels, and I have a few tricks up my sleeve in supporting these students. During last year’s bike week, the thing I was proud of most, was just how supportive all the students were of one another. I’m optimistic we will have the same atmosphere again this year. So below are the details of our bike week! Thank you all in advance for your support!!
And if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to reach out to me at mkent@cvsdvt.org, or call extension 168 at school.
CCS Bike Week
When? June 10th - June 14th
Grades involved? 3rd - 6th
Will they need a helmet? No, sanitized helmets are provided for all students (and will be personally sanitized by me after every class)
Can they bring their own helmets? As long as the helmet fits and is deemed safe by me, absolutely!
Can students bring their own bikes? Yes, but they will be responsible for storing their own bike.
Learning targets during this unit include: basic bike maintenance, bike safety, bike laws, and rules of the road.MUSIC NEWS
