Mrs. Dufresne's Second Grade
December 15-20, 2014
Curriculum Notes
For six days in one - hour sessions, the entire 2nd grade team of teachers is developing and teaching a unit on "Holiday Celebrations Around the World". Each 2nd grade teacher has chosen to focus on a country and culture. Exposing children to different cultures with food, games, customs and songs is our aim. Your child will "travel" with his / her passport to a different classroom each day to visit a different country. So far, we have visited Norway, New Zealand, and Hungary.
In Math we are understanding how 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes are related, estimating and measuring with centimeters, using a line plot to display data and estimating and measuring with inches, feet, and yards. We will be putting our measuring skills to use to create an elf later this week!
We do not have a spelling list this week. I would encourage you to keep reading with your student over the Holiday break and practice math facts as well!
Important Dates and Information
Friday, December 20th - Holiday Party at 2 p.m. Please bring your "party in a bag" by Thursday :)
December 20 - January 4th Winter Break
The funding for school wide healthy snacks has changed and our snacks will only be on Mondays and Wednesdays now. I would encourage you to send a snack with your student for the morning and then possibly one for the afternoon (especially on days that we will not have snacks - Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays).
Please remember to send your child with a warm coat, boots and shoes to change into, mittens, and a hat. We have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays - please make sure they have good PE shoes on those days!

Conferences
Thank you for coming to conferences! I was so pleased to see all the parents. It's awesome to see all the support and love these kids have at home - they are a great group of students and it was fun to see their loved ones at conferences. I am so proud of this class and all they have done.
