Pick a book from this list and read it together in the evenings - you can read out loud. Based on the blog post I shared the last two weeks, you know how beneficial it can be for your child to see and hear YOU reading and thinking about literature! Happy Reading...

Next Week's Set List (September 21-25)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We will finish our Novel Study of Hatchet this week. We have focused on our main character, Brian, and discovered how building relationships with characters in books can help us empathize and build relationships outside of books, too. It has been so fun to watch students explore and analyze this novel in depth and learn how Brian has adapted and changed based on his conflicts throughout the book.
WRITING – We continue our writing unit on narratives, focusing on developing realistic, believable characters who overcome authentic struggles. We will also introduce the story arc we use in writing, which is a lot like a plot line in reading. I anticipate students will begin to make discoveries and connections between their writing and reading.
MATH – We continue Unit 3, focusing on geometry and data. Students are practicing interpreting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from different forms of data.
SPELLING – Next week will be the unit 7 spelling test. The core words are important, example, half, remember, and idea. Please practice these words at home.
SCIENCE – No Science this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We continue unit 2 in Social Studies, which investigates Indiana's early natives. Essential Questions to explore: How did the Native Americans adapt and use land features? How do people handle conflict? How do different groups influence others?
TIPS - We will continue working this week to prepare our data binders to use as evidence of our hard work at our student-led conferences. Students are becoming excited to share their learning data with you!
