Week one of school is in the books and boy was it awesome. The last few night rehearsals of summer band, the first day of school, a start the year pep-rally, the Meet the Jags, a VERY early morning KVUE News Spot and our first Saturday morning rehearsal (which was awesome by the way). We made it through and are ready for what next week will bring. A few quick updates for everyone in this week’s letter.


We would also like to let everyone know that we are going to make a small adjustment to our after-school rehearsal schedule, effective starting Monday. This first week of school we realized that, due to the magnitude of the Johnson campus, having the students attempt to get from what could be the third floor on the opposite end of the building and ready for rehearsal in 15 minutes was very challenging. We have decided to move the start of rehearsal back 15 minutes from 4:30 to 4:45. This slight adjustment will give the students time to not only get across campus, but will allow them time to grab a quick snack, plenty of hydration and change clothes in preparation for rehearsal. This also means that each rehearsal will end 15 minutes later. The Charms calendar will be updated which means you may need to re-sync your phone with the calendar as soon as the update is posted.


What is happening with Remind101? I am sure that everyone has noticed a steep drop-off in the use of remind. That is because Remind101 just enacted a new policy that if there are over 150 members in a group the app will no longer be free and is disabled. We are currently looking into other options for quick and efficient ways to communicate with the parents and students. There is an option of purchasing a campus wide license for all of the various groups that use Remind101 at JHS and may be impacted by this new member limiting policy. We are also looking at an app entitled BAND that provides additional features and may open new opportunities. We are working on this with the school so please be patient with us. Until we are able to lock in our fast acting communication system we will keep everyone up to date through email, charms, the band web page and social media, so make sure you are following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The links to each of these are listed at the bottom of this newsletter.


This second week of school actually slows down just a little and begins to help us settle into a normal weekly schedule. However, we are super excited as we continue to prepare for our first football game on August 30 at Hendrickson. We know it is two weeks away but it will be here before we know it! Looking forward to another awesome week with our Johnson Band!! #YAYBAND

These will be a great keepsake for JHS inaugural year! Football Program Ad deadline has been extended to 8/23. This is open to all Johnson students. Your personal ad will be featured in every home Jaguar football game program published this season! The football programs are also great advertising space. PLEASE share this information with your JHS friends and any business owners you may know!

Game Day Meal Pick Up and Serve

Want to help out our Johnson Jaguar Band and Color Guard for Game Day meals? Yay! If you can pick up meals from local restaurants (Will be called and paid for) or help to serve, please sign up below. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and friends are welcome too! If you don't have a background check filed with Hays as a volunteer, please click below to get it started. The times are subject to change as I figure out when the kids need to be fed.

This plan offers 2 meals each competition day (lunch and dinner) and is highly recommended by Mr. Lucita. Please know that it is quite common for schedules to change on competition days; making it very difficult to get food to your student at the right times on those days.
