Superintendent's Newsletter

November 2016

There's an app for that....

Starting in December, Leechburg Area School District will begin using HIBster, an on-line bullying tool that will help track incidents of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. This tool can be used by anyone at anytime to report any incident. The link to HIBster can be found on the website under quick links. In addition, there is app to put on your cell phone. The code to download the app is D205.

Once a report is made on the website or through the app, it gets sent to an administrator to assign the report to a staff member. All reporting is confidential. Once the report is investigated and processed, letters will be generated to all parents whose children were involved in the incident. Students will be trained on how to use the tool in December.

Special thank you to Dr. James Budzilek, former Superintendent at LASD and current Director of Education at Pitt Bull, for donating this tool for the school year. For more information about HIBster, please go to HIBreporting.com

SAT/ACT classes at LASD

LASD will now be offering SAT and ACT prep classes to help boost college entrance exam scores. Mr. Kirk Wilson will be teaching the classes throughout the school year. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Math Tutoring through Penn State, New Kensington

LASD has partnered with PSU to participate in a free math homework hotline for all math levels grades 6-12. All students need to do is call the hotline number at 724-334-6007 to receive help for their math homework problems. You can watch a video at www.askrose.org to see how a call actually works. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Elementary Food Drive

The David Leech Elementary Student Council sponsored a food drive service project of our local food bank. Our 383 students collected 2,505 nonperishable items to build a Mountain of Cans in our Elementary Lobby. Students were asked to bring in as many canned goods as they desired. Our hope is that our Mountain of Cans will make a difference for the families in our community. Thank you to Miss Matus, Mrs. Bono, and Owen Nuttal for organizing the event.
