Monday Memo
Weekly Campus and Principal Update
Teacher Passes
Please do not issue passes out of homeroom for students to purchase snacks. Students may purchase snacks only during their lunch time.
Morning Tutorials:
- Please make every effort to issue your student(s) a pass the day before a morning tutorial that does not fall on your regularly scheduled day.
- Ms. Theodore has posted the building tutorial schedule for all teachers at the Warrior Center A hall entrance for your reference when on duty.
- We are ordering color-coded morning tutorial passes pre-printed to facilitate your filling them out as well as your ability to easily identify if a student is out of place accessing the building before 8:45 while you are on duty. As soon as they are available, we will get them to you. In the mean time, please provide a date, destination, and teacher signature on all teacher passes unless you have provided a student a standing tutorial pass.
- Parent passes should be infrequent, but they should contain a date and destination. We will share this information with parents via eNews and Facebook.
- When in doubt, err on the side of the student. Those who are diligently seeking teacher assistance far outnumber those who are trying to access the building for ill-intent.
Morning and Afternoon Duty:
Passes only serve their purpose if our team members are at their duty stations on time. If you are not able to cover your duty station, please make arrangements for someone to cover on your behalf. Ask to see student passes from those kiddos en route.

"This excellent slideshow of 54 Formative Assessments for Students was posted on Edutopia by David Wees, and is a great resource for teachers- it highlights 54 great ways to check for student understanding, using a mix of tech, hands-on, verbal, and written strategies.
David points to the definition that he uses at the beginning of the slideshow:
“A formative assessment or assignment is a tool teachers use to give feedback to students and/or guide their instruction.
It is not included in a student grade, nor should it be used to judge a teacher’s performance. Both of these would be considered summative assessments.”
While helpful for teachers, formative (or informal) assessments are also important and useful for students by providing them with instant feedback and putting them in charge of their learning. They allow students to measure their understanding constantly, and be able to figure out what they need to ask questions on before they find themselves lost in the middle of high stakes tests and projects.
For tutors and teachers alike it is helpful to have a variety of ways to check comprehension, differentiate instruction, and modify lesson plans and activities based on those results, whether when working with one student or an entire classroom."
Tuesday's Graduation Mindset ~ What Is Your Transcript?
This Graduation Mindset Learning Module helps our young students begin to understand their transcript. Click here to the video:
http://www.collegemapper.com/videos/display/Get-To-Know-Your-Transcript-VLOG
After viewing the video, if you have ninth grade students, now is the time to ask them to take it out of their backpacks to review it for accuracy. Without putting a student's transcript on display for the whole class, talk about how the transcript is organized, what the terms mean, where the total of credits can be found, and point out that the student's GPA and class rank can be found on the transcript as well. If you have 10th graders, share with them that in their upcoming academic conferences with their counselors and parents, they will receive a copy of their transcript. Reiterate that each period can award a student a 1/2 credit per semester. Credits can also be earned in summer school, eSchool, and night school.
