Pleasantdale Middle School

10.28.18

It was a great week at the middle school!

What a week of learning and fun! Thank you to the all of the teachers for their continued hard work and dedication in creating engaging learning experiences for your children. Thank you this week especially to Mrs. Driscoll and Ms. Newberry for all of the Red Ribbon Week activities that were organized. Although these learning experiences don't take on the traditional form, the students are learning nonetheless about themselves, their classmates, and how to adapt along this journey called life. I'm not sure we can ever really measure the impact of these activities, but together, the students are learning.

Brief Recap of #RealTalk about Vaping Parent Presentation

It was wonderful to have 18 parents join us to learn more about how Vaping is significantly on the rise among middle school and high school kids in the Lyons Township, throughout the state and across the nation. The Coalition for a Drug-Free Lyons Township did an excellent job presenting the material and teaching us more about what our kids are experimenting with as they grow up. Please see the linked information provided by LTHS on the student self-reported Illinois Youth Survey about the use of alcohol, vaping, and marijuana in high school.

If you missed the emails from October 19 or October 26, that explains when (Thursday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m.) and how to sign up for parent conferences (Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20), please see a copy of it here.

Tiger Tipline

While it is always best to talk directly to a staff member, we understand that sometimes this can be uncomfortable or difficult for students or parents. At Pleasantdale Middle School, we offer the Tiger Tipline as an anonymous tool for reporting unsafe, uncomfortable, or unkind behaviors and situations. We explicitly teach the students that if they ever see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or is unkind, either online or in person, they should tell a “trusted adult” which could be parents, school personnel, or other adults in their lives. The Tiger Tipline can be accessed here and we will post the link in Schoology and create a shortcut to the link on the student devices for easy access.

Dates for the Year

If you are like me, you want to know the dates for the year as far in advance as possible. As long as you understand that something may change due to unforeseen circumstances, I’d like to provide you access to the dates we’ve planned for the year (many of which are in the paper calendar you received in the mail). To access the middle school calendar dates, please click here.
