Geography

Botswana is in the northern part of South Africa, and is slightly smaller than Texas. The land is landlocked and population is concentrated in the eastern part of the country. Natural resources in Botswana are diamonds, copper, nickel salt, soda ash, potash, coal, iron core and silver. Botswana is a semi-arid country due to the short rain season. However, the high altitude and the continental situation gives it a subtropical climate. The Kalahari Desert is in the central and the southwest. Okavago Delta, the world's largest inland delta in the northwest and the Makgadikgadi Pans, a ;arg salt pan lies in the north central area. Major river is the Limpopo river. Capitol is Gaborone. Desertfication in Botswana affects the land by having droughts. There is too little water to drink and deserfication will cause high tempetures to accur.

Botswana People

The people of Botswana speak Tswana and English. Ethnic groups are Tswana, Kalanga and Basarwa. Tswana is 79%, Kalanga is 11%, and Basarwa is 3%. The remaining 7% consist of other people. Others speaking different languages such as Kgalagadi language.

In Botswana, the have a election every 5 years. There are 4 main parties and some other small parties too. The advisory house of chiefs represent the 8 principal subgroups of the botswana tribes, 5 members specifically elected by the president, and 22 members elected by the president. And 22 members elected from designated regions. Members hold office for 5 years.

People in Botswana mainly hunt for there food and money. They hunt meat and sell them for money. The remaining will be there's to eat. Industries are diamonds, copper, nickel, salt, soda ash, potash, coal, iron ore, silver, livestock processing; textiles.
