Help ORLC Select A Recipient For Our Tithe
ORLC tithes 10% of its offerings to nonprofits. Currently, the 10% tithe is divided with 50% to Alaska Mission for Christ (AMC), 25% to the District, and 25% to other organizations. For the past 10 years ASANTE has received the donation for “other”.
The Council has agreed that the 25% going to “other” should now focus on local needs. Therefore, each quarter a new organization will be chosen to receive this tithe. Newborns In Need has been chosen for the first quarter of 2023.
Outreach would like your suggestions for recipients in the next 3 quarters of 2023. There is a labeled container and forms on the Connections table for your suggestions.
Please put your recommendation in the container on the Connections table. The three organizations with the most recommendations will be the recipients of the 25% “Other” tithe, the second, third and fourth quarters of 2023.
Your recommendations will be collected February 26.
If you have questions, please contact Gaye Sarvela,

WALK FOR WARMTH FEBRUARY 11, 2023 1-2 P.M. Mirror Lake
Walk For Warmth is a United Way fundraiser to help those that need financial assistance with heating costs. We are looking for a couple of volunteers to staff a table to collect donations at Mirror Lake from 1-2 pm. Please see Gaye or Lauren to volunteer. Participation forms can be found in the Connections Corner.
ORLC will support this project with a walk at Mirror Lake. It’s a little over a mile to walk around the lake on a packed path. Great for sledding, ice skating, dog walking or visiting with family or friends.
An ORLC team will be by the lakeshore to collect your registrations and/or donations. Funds raised at this event will be matched with the ORLC Help One Another fund.
Dogs must be on a leash!
Alaska Mission for Christ
Please pray for our missionary families as they serve in unique and challenging settings. As they faithfully serve Alaskans and share the Good News of Jesus, may they also be filled with God's love, grace, and comfort - knowing they are never alone. Send an encouraging note, pray for them, or support their ministry with a gift of love. To connect with these year-round missionaries, visit www.alaskamissionforchrist.org/missionaries.
Walkin' at the MAC
"Walkin’ at the MAC”, is from 9:00-11:00AM Mondays at the MAC. If you are interested or have questions contact Ingrid Roelfs at 907-382-3662.
Digital Directory
We've updated the church management software at ORLC to stay better connected! Along with that comes a digital directory for you to easily update and share your information with us, learn some new faces, find contact info, and more. It's an "opt-in" setting, so nothing will be shared without your approval. Then, you can download the "Church Center" app on your phone to always have access to the directory, calendar, and group info at ORLC!
MTC /AMC Old Testament Course
Alaska Mission for Christ will be working with Mission Training Center to teach an Old Testament Course for Licensed Deacon training, and for continuing education. Pastors James Baumgartner and Tony Schultz will be moderators.
a. Read parts of the Old Testament each week, according to the course schedule. (Reading the Old Testament in 8 weeks is a LOT of reading. The option of watching “The Bible Project” videos is an alternative to the readings. Please discuss the options with the teacher.)
b. Watch a 2-hour video at your leisure of each class after concluding readings /videos. These are videos of the class taught by Mission Training Center.
2. There are two double-spaced four-page written assignments. Students will turn in the first assignment at the end of week 4, and the second assignment at the end of week 8.
3. Students will meet online twice in a zoom meeting with Alaska teachers, after turning in their assignments, at the end of weeks 4 and 8. This will be a time to:
a. Discuss previous lessons.
b. Ask questions.
c. Discuss the assignments.
4. Teachers are always available for questions online or by phone.
