Transition-Post Secondary Planning
September 2022
Our schools are once again busting with life and the rhythm of learning. A new school year has began with its victories, challenges, and hopes for ourselves, students, staff and families. While September is still warm, Fall is around the corner with milder temperatures, holidays, and sports to cheer.
Hope your having a great day!

2022-2023 Transition and Employment Designee (TED) Required Training
The new course is only for TEDs who DID NOT complete the training in 2021-2022 school year.
Community Agencies
Some governmental agencies have extensive waiting lists so the sooner conversations can begin about what help a student may be needed for postsecondary life, the better. This is a great website to support families prior to students transitioning to postsecondary.
We are looking for teachers or Transition Employment Designees (TEDs) to give some of your most self-determined students a voice in statewide planning during the 2022- 2023 school year. The feedback we’ve received from RSAC meetings has helped us improve Student-Centered Transitions Network (SCTN) products. This year we will have more opportunities for students to share their perspectives on critical needs for transition planning in Texas. As an educator sponsor, you would:
- Provide a platform for fostering student self-determination.
- Ensure we have student stakeholder feedback.
- Select up to ten self-determined students to be in your RSAC group. Schedule and host four meetings during the year (two per semester), using an agenda and resources provided by SCTN.
- Submit feedback notes from each meeting.
- As a "thank you" for your time, each educator sponsor who completes the requirements receives a free curriculum package valued at over $500 at the end of the school to use in their classroom or with their students.

Trainer of Trainers (TOT)-Charting the Course
Charting the Course is a Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and ESC-17 collaborative activity. The aim is to engage students with disabilities and their families in education and planning events to support the students' successful transition to post-secondary education and/or employment after high school.
The TOT Charting the Course session is designed to enable the local LEAs to train parents and students on the topics of transition, graduation, and inter-agency collaboration.
Each participant will leave with materials including the presentation, presenters notes, and resources to provide when training to help promote parent and student involvement in the transition process.

Virtual Book Study: Late, Lost, and Unprepared
Executive functions are the cognitive skills that help us manage our lives and be successful. Children with weak executive skills, despite their best intentions, often do their homework but forget to turn it in, wait until the last minute to start a project, lose things, or have a room that looks like a dump! The good news is that parents and teachers can do a lot to support and train students to manage these frustrating and stressful weaknesses.
This is a 4 week book study where we will discuss in-depth how to better support our students.
Late, Lost, and Unprepared is a must-have book for parents and teachers of students from primary school through high school who struggle with:
Impulse Control (taking turns, interrupting others, running off)
Cognitive Flexibility (adapting to new situations, transitions, handling frustrations)
Initiation (starting homework, chores, and major projects)
Working Memory (following directions, note-taking, reading and retaining info)
Planning & Organizing (completing and turning in homework, juggling schedules)
Self-monitoring (making careless errors, staying on topic, getting into trouble but not understanding why)
