supporting Lightning hockey & promoting girl's youth hockey

Coach's Corner

Congratulations to all of our players on a fun and successful 2014-2015 season... Throughout the association, from 8U through high school, we celebrated individual and team accomplishments -- a first game, a first goal, a shutout, a win against a rival, a state tournament berth and more -- all while playing the great sport of hockey! The high school team lost in the section semifinal at Andover to the eventual 7AA champion, and another exciting season of Lightning hockey ended before we had hoped. Senior captain Jordan McLaughlin capped off her career with a 60 point campaign and accepted an offer to play college hockey at Minnesota State-Mankato beginning next season. Returning captains for 2015-2016 will be Maddi Peart and Savanna Holum, and they will be joined by Ali Geislinger and Maddy Illikainen, both juniors next season. The end of another hockey season is an opportunity to reflect on experiences, cherish being part of a team, and plan your improvement for the road ahead. Have a great off-season!

Hobey Baker Character Award WInner

Congratulations to Rachel Dolensek of the GRG Lightning! Rachel was one of the MN girls high school hockey athletes to be honored with this award. Rachel received recognition at the MN State HS Hockey Tournament and was able to attend the MN Wild's last home game with other recipients from around the State as a special treat. The award recognizes female HS Hockey players who show exemplary character and sportsmanship, a solemn tradition of Hobey Baker. We are proud of your efforts Rachel, both on and off the ice! You truly live up to the Lightning mission and your hard work does not go unnoticed. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!

Community Involvement

The Lightning will once again be involved in a variety of activities this summer promoting various causes and supporting volunteerism. Look for the team at the MS walk, local parades, and the Bash!

The Wellness Window

Spartan Fitness Training will again gear up for the Lightning with the summer camp opportunities. Many girls continue to work hard off the ice with spring sports and individual fitness plans. We continue to see the benefits of the "off-ice" training and are confident that the high level conditioning will benefit the team as they look forward to next season.

Captains' Corner

Captains, Jordan McLaughlin, Maddi Peart and Savanna Holum did a great job this year guiding their team on and off the ice. They also did a great job with their remarks and presentations to their teammates at the year end banquet. Jordy wished the team good luck next year as she continues her hockey career as a Maverick!

Maddi and Savanna will move into the role of the Captains for the 2015-2016 season and joining them as Assistants will be Maddy Illikanen and Ali Geislinger.
