7th Grade Jazz Reminders

Recent Information

Parent Band - Feb. 10 and Feb. 18

As a part of our learning process in band, the students of the 6th and 7th grade level bands will be teaching a parent or guardian to play their instrument. They will explain how to begin on their instrument, they will teach you the first 5-7 notes on their instrument, and they will coach you through a piece of beginning band music. The "final exam" will be a performance at our Early Spring Band Concert, Tuesday, February 18! We are planning to have one short rehearsal on Monday, February 10th from 7:00-7:30 PM in the Patrick Marsh Band Room. Please consider this enriching opportunity to help your child learn and learn for yourself some of the same things your son or daughter does every day.

How do you sign-up? Sign-up at one of the tables at the Winter Concert or email Mrs. Haraldson and let her know. Parent Band Music will be available at the concert or will be sent home with your child.

EPOCH Sound Pep Band Night - Jan 9

We are going to have a Band Party in conjunction with a music event! Epoch Sound, the high energy high school pep band that performs at the HS basketball games, has invited interested middle school 6th & 7th grade band students to join them for a performance at the HS Basketball game on Thur., January 9. We have created parts so that all middle school band students, regardless of their performance level or the instrument they play, can participate. Note- the pep band will only play pre-game.

Thursday, Jan. 9

2:50 pm – Rehearsal and Activities at PMMS

4:30 PM – Pizza in the Cafeteria (Bring own drink)

5:10 PM – Load Bus going to the HS (one way…must find a ride home after the performance).

5:45 PM - MS musicians meet in the band room of the High School to rehearse with Epoch Sound.

*Students who are unable to attend right after school may also meet us at the high school by 5:45 PM. These students are responsible for their own transportation to the high school!

6:45 PM – Pregame music will begin. The MS group will alternate with tunes played by Epoch Sound.

7:20 PM – Approximate End Time - MS students will be dismissed after the performance.

*Students can stay for the remainder of the game; however they will not be supervised by Mr. Gleason or Mrs. Haraldson and must purchase a ticket from SPHS Athletics.

Please note that transportation home from the HS is the responsibility of the student’s family! Students will need to take their instruments home from the HS as well as return them on Monday for rehearsal. Please note that family members who wish to hear their child perform must purchase a ticket to the basketball game.

We are also in need of a few chaperones to help with the evening. If you would like to help, let us know. In order to help us plan for transportation and food, dinner money is due no later than Thurs, January 9.

How do you participate??

1) Sign-up on the Epoch Sound Sign-up Sheet at Winter Band Concert table.

2) Pay at concert or return $5.00 for pizza & bus (cash please)

3) Music to be handed out in December

Host A Band Student From Japan!

The Sun Prairie Band Program is pleased to welcome 111 student musicians from Hikarighaoka High School in Okazaki, Japan on December 17 and 18. Part of the visit will include home stays for our Japanese guests. We are looking for families willing to host groups of two or three of these student musicians from the evening of Tuesday, December 17 through the morning of Thursday, December 19. Host families would provide sleeping accommodations (nothing fancy - a couch or air mattress is okay), a few meals (dinners on Tuesday and Wednesday; breakfasts on Wednesday and Thursday) and transportation to and from Sun Prairie High School during the musician's stay (musicians will be at school during the day). This is an exciting cultural opportunity for our students!

How to become host families

1. All adult members living in host family homes will need to have a current background check on file with the Sun Prairie school District at the time of hosting. This is the same background check you complete to volunteer or chaperon in the school district. If you think you may already have a background check on file please email Mr. Gleason and he can confirm for you.

2. Review the timeline and check list on our website. You can find all the information and forms need to be a host family HERE
