Fall Is In The Air

Hi everyone,

This time of year brings with it cooler weather, a busy activities calendar, continued routines and rigor in the classroom, and the last half of the 1st quarter of the school year. We plan to send home mid-term grades on Wednesday, September 21st. As mentioned last week, we will also be sending home NWEA MAP testing results for your child at that time. You will receive the family report which focuses on your child's performance and how to encourage learning and growth. This report will define achievement, growth, and what the RIT score is. You will see that the report is broken down by reading, math, and science. The graphs will show your child's individual achievement and growth compared to the national average. We will be working with student's in their classes and have conversations on goals for the school year in each area. You will also have an opportunity at conferences this fall to discuss their MAP scores with teachers.

This past Friday at in-service, our teachers did a MAP data dig. We were able to identify areas we know need to be a strong focus for our students instructionally. We see a need to connect personally with students on their scores so they can set goals for the school year. We believe if we can help them develop and reach these goals, students will begin to make connections in how their effort paired with data driven instruction by their teachers can lead to growth. We value this growth and strive to create a progressive, growth focused mind-set for our students. As we begin to gather more data points with our yearly fall, winter, and spring scores we will be able to see trends in data that will lead to analysis of where we can improve instructional supports. We will be able to see our strengths at all levels. We are looking forward to continuing our efforts and continuing to grow. We thank all of our students and parents for your patience and coming along with us on year 2 of the NWEA MAP benchmark assessments. I am so proud of our kids and their efforts this past fall on their assessments.
