A Note from our Principal

Dear Thunderbird Families,

We are so excited to have welcomed our 3rd - 5th graders this week! What an awesome sight to see so many children at Thornhill today; we had over 150 students here!

Thank you all for your support and patience during this most challenging year.

Mr. Daubenspeck

Open PFC Executive Committee Positions

The end of the year has crept upon us which means we need to fill our PFC Board slate for next year! As you know, volunteers are key to our organization - we can’t do it without YOU. This week, we want to let you know about two open Executive Committee positions which we need to fill ASAP. You are joining a seasoned executive committee to lead us in the 2021-2022 year.

  • Vice President of Education Support: This person would work with the Principal to support education at Thornhill and inspire the board positions that report into them: Enrichment, Technology, and TK/Kinder Chair(s).

  • Vice President of Community Support: This person provides support and direction for the board positions that report into them: Dads Club, Diversity Chair, Fall Festival Chairs (was Carnival), Hospitality Chair, Site/Safety Chair, Spirit Wear, and Sustainability Chair, and Traffic Chair.

We need our executive committee members to attend most, if not all, of the monthly PFC meetings! They are voting members and therefore really make a difference for our school. Please contact our presidents Alicia Streight & Rianna Stoll at if you are interested or want more information.

Videos Wanted!

We are seeking 2 types of videos - the first is for ANYONE. The second is specifically from 5th graders. Videos need to be submitted by Friday, April 23.

Video #1 - Anyone who loves Thornhill can submit

We are soliciting videos of gratitude, reflection, and fun to feature during our Virtual Gala on Saturday May 1. Does your family have a special Thornhill memory they'd like to share? If so, we ask that you record a short (60 seconds or less) horizontal video and upload it here. Nothing fancy required. Have fun and tell us why you love Thornhill.

Video #2 - Calling all 5th graders - this is your time to shine!

The Virtual Gala Wants to Feature Your Talents In Real Life! We would love to feature some of our amazing 5th grade Thunderbirds as part of the Virtual Gala on May 1. About the Thornhill Newsletter

The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.

Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Jill Evans, at by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.

THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VPs of Communications Erin Proudfoot & Evie Nagy, PFC Presidents Rex Crum & Alicia Streight, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
