LVES Mission and Vision
Knowing our New Crew - Mrs. Kate Carlson
Hello Pony Family! I am Kate Carlson. I am so excited to have joined the Pony Family this year! I have always called Texas home and could not wait to move back when my husband was offered a new job as the Assistant General Manager of Cowboys Golf Club. I grew up just outside Houston, in the suburb of Clear Lake where my parents worked for Boeing in the Space Program. We moved to Sammamish in 2000 when my dad took a new job working with the Plane Program of Boeing. While I will always be a Seahawks fan, I will support the Cowboys as well now. :) I just moved here after the school year was over at the end of June from Sammamish, Washington (a suburb of Seattle). My husband moved here in February to start his new role. We have been married for almost a year and a half. We were married in June of 2017 in Chehalis, Washington.
We are the proud parents of two AMAZINGLY CRAZY Boston Terriers that are actual brothers, from different litters, Colt and Hawk. They are nonstop energy all day long, until we go to the puppy park at night. I have a younger sister who is a Junior at Chapman University in Orange, California studying Pre-Med. My parents are still living in Washington, but come to visit whenever they can! They are both engineers and continue to work with the Boeing Company. They even get to carpool to work together now. Nick and I are fortunate enough to have an amazing niece and nephew that live in Phoenix, AZ with my husband’s entire family. Family is everything to us, and we can’t wait until everybody is here for Thanksgiving this year!
This is my 4th year teaching. I previously taught Kindergarten as a long-term substitute in my home school district, Lake Washington School District. I then accepted a 1st grade job in the Snohomish School District. Nick and I moved to be closer to his golf course in Washington (The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge) requiring me to move back to my home district again. For my 2nd and 3rd years of teaching, I returned to LWSD and taught at the elementary that I finished my schooling at and student taught at. I was even fortunate enough to teach on the team that I student taught with! At Elizabeth Blackwell Elementary, I taught 1st grade for a year, and then was moved to 2nd grade last year!

What is our Istation data telling us?
Take the time to celebrate this success. :-)
Things to reflect on:
- What are your celebrations / glows? In which areas did your students grow the most? How are you planning to celebrate with your students?
- What are some needs / grows? How will you adjust your guided reading instruction based on your data?
- How are you using the summary report to guide your mini lessons? Is the report showing the most need in vocabulary, spelling, text fluency, or comprehension?
- Are your students in Tier I, Tier II and Tier III showing growth according to the skill growth report?
- How are you sharing this data with your students? Do they know their Tier?
- What are you noticing when monitoring your students while taking the test?
- What support do you need?
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades - Istation Data Check-Ins
You will need to bring:
- Your guided reading binder/notebook or any other tool that you use to organize your guided reading information
- Guided Reading groups
- Classroom distribution report graph
During the meeting:
- Share 3 things that you can CELEBRATE based on your October Istation data and running records for your class.
- Share 2 things that you have been doing, or will be doing in RESPONSE to your October Istation data and running records for your class.
- Create a goal for your Tier I, Tier II and Tier III students for your November Istation check-in using the Description of Instructional Tiers.
- We will Identify strategies and resources to use to accomplish these goals, and the skills on which to focus.
