The Husky Howl
September 28-October 2, 2020; Semester I, Week 5
A NOTE FROM YOUR HUGHES MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
HMS Parents and Friends,
This week begins the final week of the first grading period of the '20-'21 school year. It seems that school has just begun and yet, with all of the learning curves and technical bumps, it seems like this grading period has lasted an eternity. The bottomline is everyone needs to work to wrap up the grading period this week by getting missing work turned in and all corrections completed.
As we get ready for new learning objectives and roughly 150 new faces on campus, it is important to remind your child to use their "flexibility" muscles. Everyone did a great job the first few weeks of school while we implemented new routines and processes. There is a possibility of new changes that will have to be implemented to better accommodate social distancing with more folks. So HMS Parents, do not be surprised if your child comes home and says they had to adjust their daily routine.
Parents, over time your speech and actions really mold your child's attitudes. It is crazy sometimes to think about how children try to break all molds but really your beliefs are imbedded deeply. Do not give up, Parents, because in the long run your child is worth keeping your speech, actions, and attitudes positive.
Until next time,
Your HMS Administrative Team
DRESS CODE UPDATE
With that said, many students are still not coming to school with their IDs. Parents, we would prefer to not have to make stickers each day for 60 - 70 students. That is not a good way to start the day for us but especially not for teachers and students. A $2 fee will be assess for new IDs.
We are so appreciative of each family member who reminds their Husky to pack the ID in their backpack each evening so they will not forget it each morning. A reminder in the morning to put it on is also great. Middle school aged students need reminders about some things just like we do.
LAST WEEK AT HMS
On Thursday, our 7th and 8th grade Lady Huskies played some great volleyball against Wheat Middle School in Cleburne. As we progress through the year we hope that more and more will be able to witness the excitement and fun of middle school volleyball. Look below for more information about ticket purchases for this week's games.
On Friday, we were able to execute our 1st Fire Drill of the school year. Kids were great and seem to be comfortable with the process. Of course, our teachers were great as well. We want to be prepared for ALL emergencies at ALL times. Unfortunately, we may not be doing as many drills this year in order to refrain from moving large groups of students at one time. The minimum number of drills we will execute are as follows:
Lockdown - one per semester
Fire/Evacuation - one per month
Secure Lockout - one per school year
Shelter for Severe Weather - one per school year
Shelter-in-Place - one per school year
We will be talking about processes and teachers will be doing simulations on a smaller scale with their students so they are informed and prepared.
