The Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) is holding AMP Camp again this summer. The Advanced Manufacturing Camp (AMP Camp) is a grant-funded program designed for rising 8th and 9th graders in which AMP Camp participants join classmates in hands-on experiments related to advanced manufacturing and science exploration. These experiments are designed to spark interest in the future of manufacturing and to help demonstrate advanced technology skills needed for the 21st century workplace.
The dates for the camp are June 5 – June 9, 2017. Enrollment is limited and priority is given to new campers. Apply early to reserve your spot! Registration is now open. Seeking Applicants for Item Review (Science and Social Studies)
From the TDOE...The department is pleased to announce an opportunity for educators to participate in item review for science and social studies, which will take place June 12–23. The time commitment ranges from 2–4 days depending on the grade level and content area of the committee. Participants will receive a stipend and travel accommodations when appropriate. All interested applicants should complete an online application (application closes April 12, 5 p.m. CDT. For more information, contact Christina Fox. Educators will be selected for the following committees:
- Science in grades 3–8, biology, and chemistry
- Social studies in grades 3–8 and U.S. history
- Item bias and sensitivity

Congratulations to the following students for competing in the state National History Day competition in Nashville this weekend: Emma True, John Ryan, Fathima Shaikh and Gabe Tipton!
Gabe Tipton won second place in the state at in the Junior Individual Performance Category at the National History Day Competition! He will go to nationals at the University of Maryland in June!

Our JSMS Teachers of the year were recognized at the BOE meeting last week and we are proud of the work they and all of our JSMS teachers do every day! Congratulations Kathleen Donnellan and Kristen Duncan!
We are very proud of our JSMS students who traveled to Nashville this weekend to sing in the TN Treble Honor Choir! (picture below)
