6th Grade Math (Mr. Appleton)
Mr. Appleton’s Math Class
It is hard to believe that there are only a few weeks of school left. For the most part my students have worked hard all year and made much academic progress. I am particularly impressed with the growth in computational skills and thinking. It also warms my heart that many students are no longer afraid to tackle a challenging and convoluted math problem.
I have noticed in the weeks since winter break that there are some basic math measurements that are not solidified in all students. If a student has trouble with quick recall on these measurements, it would be suggested that the student create some flashcards to study. The success of future problem solving hinges on understanding these measurements. Here are some examples of questions that were asked in class and met with flummoxed eyes:
How many minutes in an hour?
How many feet in a yard?
How many inches in a yard?
How many cups in a gallon?
How many ounces in a cup?
How many feet in a mile?
How many pints in a gallon?
How many grams in a kilogram?
How many milliliters in a liter?
How many ounces in a pound?
