Middle School Newsletter
September 2021
From the Principal:
Dear Parents,
We look forward to seeing students in the Middle School very soon. There has been a great deal of preparation this summer in anticipation for their arrival back to school, Tuesday, September 7th, 2021. The facilities crew at the Middle School has performed a deep clean of the building in preparation for the start of the school year.
The arrival procedure will be the same as last year. Students arriving at the MS by bus will be let off of the busses beginning at 7:25am and enter in the rear of the building, through the cafeteria door. Students that walk, or are dropped off before 7:25am, will go to the cafeteria or the auditorium (socially distanced). The building is not open before 7:00am. The District will continue to provide a “grab and go” breakfast beginning at 7:10am. Parents dropping off students in the morning will continue to do so on the east side of the building. The east side driveway will continue to be one way (heading south) and exit out Highland Avenue.
Staff additions at the Middle School for the year 2021-2022:
Deana Timmerman School Psychologist Full Time Middle School
Dennen Hill Guidance Office Secretary Full Time Middle School
Kari Bocianski Day Custodian Full Time Middle School
Joe DelPlato Building Sub Full Time Middle School

Schoology, the district learning management system, will continue to be the primary mode of communication. Schoology allows families to review and stay in close contact with students' assignments and grades. Student Assignment Books (SAB’s) will again be used to assist students with their organization and communication between home and school. Please check your child’s SAB frequently, as well as Schoology.
Fifth and sixth grade students will have lunch during 5th period. Fifth period is between 10:41-11:20am. Eighth grade students have lunch between 11:25 - 12:04pm (6th period). Seventh grade students will have lunch between 12:09- 12:48pm (7th Period). Students will be socially distanced as best as possible. Playground will occur during lunchtime for all grade levels a minimum of one time per week.
Dismissal is at 2:16pm. Walkers (and students being picked up by parents) will wait in the gym to be dismissed until all buses have exited school grounds (usually 2:20pm). Students may also stay 10th period with permission from parents and staff. The 2nd bus run departs from the Middle School at 2:55pm.

From the Assistant Principal:
Greetings from the Assistant Principal,
We, at Williamson Middle School, welcome the start of the new school year. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming 5th grade class. Our current 5th grade class will graduate in 2029! If the past year and a half has taught us anything, we must celebrate these joyous moments and transitions!
As the 2021-2022 school year begins, our students will attend school in person, 5 days a week. At this time, athletics and extracurricular activities are in place. If your 7th or 8th grade student is participating in athletics, they must have an updated physical and be cleared through Family ID. We look forward to providing our students with opportunities to explore and grow. Encourage your child to get involved.
As a building, we continue to promote the PRIDE motto and encourage positive behavior. Our beliefs make the Middle School a place of excitement and exploration.
The most important concept to embrace is flexibility. We will face challenges this year, but we must adapt and stay true to the components of our motto and embrace perseverance and integrity. We will get through this.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email or call at (315) 589-9665.
Kathryn Taylor
Middle School Assistant Principal
From the Health Office:
A reminder to Parents of 5th graders: New York State Law requires 5th grade students to submit a current physical (dated on or after 9/7/20) before the first day of school. Please make an appointment with your doctor if you have not done so already.
A reminder to Parents of 6th graders: Per New York State Law, all 6th graders require a Tdap immunization within 14 days of their 11th birthday. Please make an appointment with your physician to get this done if you have not already done so.
A reminder to Parents of 7th graders: New York State Law requires 7th grades to submit a current physical (dated on or after 9/7/20) and have a Meningococcal vaccine before the first day of school. Please make an appointment with your doctor for the physical / immunization if you have not done so already.
If your child requires medication during the school day, please get a doctor’s order for the medication indicating the dose, time and frequency that the medication may be given. Medication orders must be signed by the physician and a parent/guardian. All medications must be delivered to the Middle School Health office by an adult.
Students may not have any kind of medication with them (including cough drops) in school without a doctor’s order permitting them to carry and administer the medication independently.
Also a quick reminder… All absences from school require a signed note from the parent/guardian. This includes absence for illness, doctor visits, family reasons, and tardiness. If you call your child in as sick you still need to send in a note with them the day they return.
As always please feel free to call the middle school health office if you have any questions or concerns, 315-589-9665 x3520.
